Position Summary:

The Import Document Specialist II oversees the import document preparation process for Sig Sauer product lines and regions. This role requires a deep understanding of import processes, international trade regulations, and supply chain relationships. The specialist coordinates with suppliers, freight forwarders, and customs authorities to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant shipments. The Import Specialist II also ensures adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and actively contributes to continuous improvement initiatives.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Coordinate with suppliers, freight forwarders, and customs brokers to obtain and review import documentation.
  • Prepare and submit complex import documentation, including specialized permits and licenses.
  • Review and audit import documents for accuracy, completeness, and regulatory compliance.
  • Resolve import document issues and discrepancies promptly.
  • Liaise with customs authorities to address questions or concerns related to shipments.
  • Monitor and track import shipments to ensure timely delivery and compliance with regulations.
  • Collaborate with internal team members and various Sig departments to support seamless operations.
  • Handle data entry and maintain accurate records of import operations.
  • Estimate weights, dimensions, and pallet counts for future shipments to secure competitive rates.
  • Stay current with import customs regulations, documentation requirements, and ACE regulations.
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement projects and tasks to streamline processes.
  • Utilize ACE reports and navigation tools for compliance management.
  • Support ADD/CVD research, HTS classifications, and analyses of Section 232 and 302 tariff impacts.
  • Manage customs duty reporting, claim filing, and import rate generation.
  • Leverage free trade agreements to optimize import operations and cost efficiency.
  • Review and ensure accuracy of import documentation requirements, Post entry filings, Customs inspections, and Customs forms 3461 and 7501.
  • When necessary, assist the export department and cross-train in various other international aspects of logistics.


Education/Experience & Skills:



  • Associate degree in a relevant field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in international trade and import operations.
  • Strong knowledge of import customs regulations, documentation requirements, and SOPs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); Oracle and Agile experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to generate accurate and efficient documentation quickly.
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to propose solutions to common issues.
  • Less than 5% travel required (e.g., domestic trade shows, vendor visits).
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to consistent compliance.
  • Ability to prepare and review a wide range of import documents, including import licenses, customs declarations, and letters of credit.
  • Experience in maintaining accurate filing systems for import documentation.
  • Proactive in addressing regulatory changes and adapting procedures accordingly.


Working Conditions:



  • Regularly perform repetitive tasks.
  • Work is primarily standing (90 + % of the shift) except for lunch and break periods.
  • Shifts are 8 hours, 10 hours, and 12 hours.
  • The duties of this job normally require exposure to a typical manufacturing environment. Frequent standing, sitting, stooping/squatting, walking, and stair climbing can be expected along with frequent lifting and/or moving of tooling, parts containers, and materials up to 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to reach with hands and arms, bend and kneel frequently at a minimum of 50% of the shift, as well as undergo repetitive wrist, hand, elbow, shoulder, and ankle motions.
  • Must demonstrate proficient fine motor skills, ability to grip, reach, pull, turn, and use tools to torque fixtures in various machinery or in the assembly, machining, or testing of parts.
  • Specific vision abilities required may include close vision, distance vision, peripheral and depth perception, and the ability to focus on fine print.
  • Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
  • Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. security mandates.
