The Career Coach serves as the primary career development counselor for over 3,800 undergraduate students in the department. This role is responsible for developing and delivering career and professional development counseling services, including major exploration, assessments, job/internship search support, and graduate school preparation.

Requirements and Preferences


Work Schedule Monday-Friday / 8am-5pm, some nights and weekends (25 hours)
Other Work/Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized career coaching and counseling services, assessing student needs and helping them make informed career decisions
  • Serve as lead instructor for the M299 internship course
  • Deliver engaging one-on-one coaching sessions and group workshops on a range of career topics
  • Administer and interpret assessments measuring interests, skills, values, and abilities
  • Review and provide actionable feedback on resumes, cover letters, and professional online profiles
  • Conduct mock interviews and provide tailored interview preparation and feedback
  • Collaborate with academic advisors to integrate career development into student orientation and coursework
  • Support the planning and execution of college-wide career events, such as career fairs, employer panels, and networking events
  • Stay current on industry trends, job market data, and employer expectations to guide student decision-making
  • Partner with the director to develop strategic initiatives and contribute to goal-setting and reporting
  • Assist with data collection and preparation of the department's annual report
  • Represent the office at college and university-wide events


Minimum Experience/Education

  • Minimum of three years of experience in a university career center or in business/industry settings related to career development, talent acquisition, human resources, or employment


Department Required Skills

  • Master's degree in counseling, business administration, student personnel services, or a related field; or a bachelor's degree with equivalent professional training and experience
  • Strong understanding of career development theory, job-search strategies, and career paths
  • Demonstrated skill in using individual and group counseling techniques for career decision-making
  • Knowledge of employment resources and career planning materials
  • Understanding of diverse career development needs, including those of individuals with disabilities, minorities, and older job seekers
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to display creativity, initiative, and a positive attitude in daily responsibilities

  • Experience with career information management systems (e.g., platforms for campus recruiting, job boards, resume referrals, and event registration)
