Due to our continued growth, we are seeking a motivated and growth-oriented person to join our team as the Application Engineer at our Columbus, MN location. This position is an exempt, full-time role and reports to the VP of Technology Solutions. Minimal travel is required.

As an Application Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, documenting and implementing software-enabled electromechanical systems that enhance our Mobile Security solutions.

This hands-on, cross-disciplinary role requires competence in mechanical, electrical, and IP networking systems, focusing on creating scalable and reliable solar-powered security systems. You will transform our electrical and mechanical engineering by providing solutions to complex engineering problems. Our team's success will rely upon your ability to develop innovative new ideas and be an active contributor on a cross-functional team.

Some of the key responsibilities include:



  • Lead the design, development, optimization, and documentation of electromechanical systems, including mechanical design, and electrical harness and cabinet design.
  • Lead efforts to design and integrate IoT devices (control boards, network devices, cameras, sensors, etc.)
  • Evaluate and integrate 3rd party products, including AI/ML video analytics, into our solutions.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot basic hardware, software and configuration issues.
  • Design and develop electrical systems.
  • Drive the integration of power systems, including PV systems, batteries, and fuel cells.
  • Stay abreast of new technologies, regulatory changes, and industry best practices to drive continuous improvement.
  • Be a contributing member of cross-functional teams to build and improve customer experiences
  • Assist with production assembly and equipment builds as needed (ad hoc)
  • Additional duties as assigned

  • wired and wireless communications, location-based services, Java Enterprise, cloud/edge/mobile computing platforms and hardware development.
  • Proven experience in mechanical and electrical design.
  • Hands-on experience with design/drawing software.
  • Experience with IP networking, industrial control systems, IoT devices, and power systems.
  • Strong project management and documentation skills.



Required Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Electronics Engineering.



  • Experience: 5 years of relevant experience within an engineering or technical discipline.



Preferred Qualifications



  • Experience with IP networking technologies (including LTE and satellite).
  • Experience with solar powered systems.
  • Experience in the security or surveillance industry.



Physical and Mental Demands

The Application Engineer is an office-based role. The primary physical and mental demands include:



  • Remains in a stationary position (sitting or standing) 50% of the time.


  • Constantly operates a computer and other office equipment, such as a scanner, copy machine and printer.


  • Communicates with others in their area of expertise, both internally and externally. Exchanges accurate information in these situations.


  • Frequently moves equipment and supplies weighing up to 30 pounds.


  • Occasionally, the individual in this position will need to stand, reach, bend, stoop, and kneel.


  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include normal vision.


  • The office environment will have normal lighting and climate control tolerances.


  • Additionally, the office setting will have moderate noise exposure, i.e. business office with computers, printers, light traffic.


  • Travel conditions may involve being in an aircraft or automobile for extended periods of time.


  • Work is performed in the business office at a minimum of 40 hours a week.
