Overview

GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Under the direct supervision of the assigned manager, the Undergraduate Intern is responsible for project-based tasks to support a designated department. These tasks may be administrative or research oriented, depending on the department. Assigned projects will require basic analytical and communications skills. For research-based departments, the Undergraduate Intern will be responsible for semi-complex laboratory tasks. Specific job responsibilities will vary by department but may include information gathering data entry, writing, editing and/or laboratory work. This is a temporary, non-benefitted role.



Responsibilities

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Administrative:

    Coordinate and perform advanced administrative tasks
  • Conduct more complex research to assist team members
  • Assist with the preparation of data for projects and studies; compile statistics as required or requested
  • File, retrieve, collect, organize, manage, and distribute information from diverse internal and external sources
  • Perform assigned project tasks within specified timeframes
  • Perform other duties as required

Research:

  • Perform more advanced experiments according to written protocols
  • Perform normal laboratory maintenance tasks
  • Prepare laboratory media and solutions.
  • Operate research equipment (i.e. scintillation counters, microscopes, centrifuges, balances) and record results
  • Perform more complex library searches, reading and copying relevant materials.
  • Perform statistical analysis of data, genetic analysis and/or clinical studies.
  • Perform data entry
  • Perform other duties as required


Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree candidate
  • Related experience preferred
  • Basic analytical and communication skills
  • Attention to detail with the ability to collect and record information from a wide variety of sources
  • Ability to use standard office tools and software (MS-Office)
  • Must be reliable and able to set consistent work hours


Additional Information

The Futai Lab in the Neurobiology Department at UMass Chan Medical School is seeking a motivated and passionate undergraduate intern interested in exploring the roles of risk genes associated with neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative diseases, such as autism, schizophrenia, and Alzheimer's disease, on neuronal function.
Under direct supervision, the intern will assist with semi-complex laboratory tasks, including wet lab bench work and animal behavior testing. Responsibilities will also include data collection, entry, and analysis, as well as writing and editing research-related documents. This is a temporary, non-benefited position.
