Imaging Specialist Radiation Oncology

The Imaging Specialist Radiation Oncology creates radiation treatment planning structures, beams, and other devices on CT and other fused image data. Working under minimal supervision, this role ensures simulation tasks are completed and that planning can begin. After planning, this role assists in final patient and documentation preparation for treatment. The Imaging Specialist Radiation Oncology performs support tasks for dosimetry including receipt and processing of radioactive material and routine maintenance of various department systems involved in simulation, treatment, and planning. This role also provides assistance and performs simulation and treatment including external beam and brachytherapy as needed.


Imports patient data into treatment planning system and prepares the fused planning images by accurately setting isocenter and creating beams with multi-leaf collimators (MLCs).
Posts process physician contours to allow accurate computer-generated external beam radiation treatment planning.
Serves as a resource to simulation and radiation treatment therapists.
Performs simulation, treatment and treatment planning, including radioactive seed implants, as needed.
Performs both rigid and deformable image fusions.
Performs multisystem dose accumulation and prepare documentation such as isodoses and dose-volume histogram (DVH) reports.
Receives and processes radioactive material according to the organization's radioactive material receipt policy.
Performs routine planning system maintenance including management of patient libraries, archiving/movement of patient data, assisting with patient data infrastructure issues and quality assurance of various systems.
Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:
Required: Graduate of a Radiation Therapy Technology Program w/ 3 years experience (will accept Graduate of a Certified Medical Dosimetrist Program w/ no experience)

EXPERIENCE:
Required: 3 years w/ Graduate of a Radiation Therapy Technology Program
no experience required w/Graduate of a Certified Medical Dosimetrist Program

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:
Required: Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Radiation Therapy
