Overview

Regional Engineering is seeking to recruit a Technical Associate to join its management team. The Technical Associate is responsible for overseeing distribution facilities and ensuring that they operate within both operating procedures and engineering specifications. The successful candidate must be energetic and demonstrate an unwavering commitment to our Code of Conduct and The Way We Work Principles. The Technical Associate will either review yearly, system load telemetry and analyze distribution components, design relief alternatives and reliability projects. They will evaluate for economic feasibility, make project recommendations, issue distribution layouts and B&A's, and support the construction groups throughout project construction. Provide the Operations groups support during system contingencies or storms. Analyze customer complaints, voltage irregularities and component failures.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • Work with local 1-2 designers in the design, reinforcement and expansion of the electrical distribution systems for load relief or reliability work.
  • Provide instruction and guidance in the development of service determination and construction layouts.
  • Review and sign off on distribution layouts, B&As and feeder sequences.
  • Ensure all designs are in compliance with applicable engineering specifications and procedures.
  • Prepare necessary documents and technical data required to process major projects for Work Order Approval through the appropriation process.
  • Assists Engineering Managers in the preparation of Capital Budget.
  • Reviews progress of various projects to ensure their completion is within the required timeframe and within budget.
  • Establish feeder ratings and evaluates new business projects for their impact on distribution equipment.
  • Analyze Distribution Reliability and evaluate different proposed projects impact to the associated reliability metric.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of outages and review work routines/processes to identify improvement opportunities, and where appropriate develop and implement corrective measures.
  • Direct and track the activities required to update all distribution maps including M&S plates, C&DO plates, and feeder prints within the required deadlines.
  • Provide off hour and weekend support in the event of storms, system contingencies or customer outages.
  • Monitor and provide engineering analysis for the network and non-network system during emergency events.
  • Represents the Company at meetings with customers, contractors, governmental officials, consulting engineers, lawyers and other Company personnel regarding electric service and distribution, method of supply and feasibility to ensure compliance with Company procedures and specifications.
  • Performs other related tasks and assignments as required.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree Engineering, Energy, Math, Physics or Computer Science. and Full-time or internship experience will count towards the one-year minimum of work experience requirement; Candidates that have participated in the companys full-time college cooperative or summer cooperative internships for a minimum of six months meet the EP experience requirements.
Relevant Work Experience
  • Less than 2 years Relevant work experience (including engineering co-op and internships). Con Edison internship experience apply to this requirement. Required
  • Must be detail oriented and have excellent organizational, analytical and technical skills. Required
  • Must possess strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to diplomatically interact with internal and external customers, support staff and various levels of management. Required
  • Must possess general knowledge of computer systems, MS Office products and CAD applications. Required
  • Must have an understanding of engineering drawings and map reading. Required

  • Knowledge of Electric Operations, which includes equipment, cable and splicing associated with underground and/ or overhead installation and associated construction standards. Preferred
  • Experience with distribution electrical equipment. Preferred

Additional Physical Demands
  • Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
  • Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory, as needed.
  • Must work with and in the vicinity of high voltage and/or other high-energy systems.
  • Must wear all necessary personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including; fire retardant clothing and safety harness.
  • Must climb in and out of manholes and excavations.
  • Must work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces).
  • Walking, climbing driving and site visits are required.
