DESCRIPTION

Under supervision, the Cell/Molecular Biology Research Associate will assist with and perform human genetic research projects aimed at identification of genes responsible for developmental brain disorders. Works as part of a multidisciplinary team to integrate phenotype data with genotypes. Techniques include molecular biology and genetic analysis (including Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), DNA and RNA extractions, genotyping). Expertise in next-gen sequencing library prep is required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Theoretical background and knowledge in human genetics typically attained by a Bachelor's degree and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Theoretical and practical experience in the use of antisense oligonucleotides other forms of gene therapy

  • One (1) year of practical laboratory experience in human genetics or molecular biology laboratory.

  • Competence with standard and complex molecular biology techniques such as DNA and RNA extractions, genotyping, genetic mapping, PCR, RT-PCR, sequencing, single cell genotyping.

  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot experiments.

  • Excellent verbal, written, and electronic communication skills that facilitate professional, effective, and courteous interaction with a diverse population.

  • Knowledge of compliance with environmental health and safety requirements. Knowledge of UC San Diego's procedures for laboratory safety preferred.

  • Experience with Illumina next-gen sequencing, e.g. library prep and analysis.

  • Experience in cell culture, stem cell modeling, CRISPR editing, FACS sorting, multiomics analysis.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Excellent time management and strong demonstrated organizational and multi-tasking skills. Ability to establish priorities, meet multiple and frequently changing deadlines with flexibility. Detail oriented.

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a laboratory environment which interacts with large number of research and technical personnel and other laboratories.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check.

  • Overtime and variation of work schedule may be necessary to complete experiments/projects.

  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $55,374 - $66,064 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $26.52 - $31.64

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
