Position Summary |
This position is primarily responsible for assisting patrons with library services, including media and design, in the Undergraduate Library. The Access Services Technician will search for, and check out, library materials such as books, DVDs, and equipment. They also help users find and access the library's databases and streaming media resources. This position supervises the main UL Service Desk daily, including managing and directing the service desk assistants who are working during those times and liaising with facilities and housekeeping staff to address relevant needs as they are reported.
The Access Services Technician is secondarily responsible for the execution of various special projects under the direction of permanent Undergraduate Library & Media and Design Center supervisors. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience in library services, office support, or related field; or equivalent combination of training and experience. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
* Demonstrated experience providing strong customer service in a fast-paced, dynamic educational setting.
* Demonstrated experience locating and analyzing data contained in complex online systems, such as scholarly databases, online catalogs, or financial systems.
* Demonstrated experience communicating clearly, while explaining policies and delivering public service support.
* Demonstrated commitment to fostering library environments in which all members of the campus community feel welcome.
* Demonstrated attention to detail. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
* Familiarity with the services, spaces, technology, and collections provided in a modern academic library.
* Working knowledge of library systems (ex. ILLiad, Sierra) or automated circulation system. |
Special Physical/Mental Requirements |
* Must have the ability to move 30 lbs with or without reasonable accommodation.
* Must have the ability to move loaded carts with or without reasonable accommodation. |
