Summary:

The Freedom Federal Credit Union Business Development Officer is responsible for growing membership through area businesses and Select Employee Groups (SEGs) as well as through Community Outreach, virtual and online meetings, and Financial Literacy Programs within our current field of membership. Including but not limited to Baltimore, Carroll and Harford County as well as Baltimore City. Responsible for demonstrating leadership in support of the credit union's vision and mission, ensuring members are provided with exceptional service.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the strategic direction, maintenance, support, and nurture of new and existing memberships obtained through the Select Employee Groups (SEGs) in the portfolio.
  • Responsible for the identification, solicitation, outreach, and initial facilitation of new SEG partnerships that will enhance the opportunity for Freedom Federal Credit Union to add new memberships and to cross-sell a full suite of products and services.
  • Responsible for the achievement of business development goals, tracking the profitability of each SEG relationship and identify/solicit potential new membership opportunities.
  • Responsible for establishing a plan to identify new SEGS that directly result in profitable retail memberships for the credit union.
  • Plan, coordinate, direct, and oversee business development efforts to ensure Member Services has the tools needed to nurture and continue penetration of SEG groups.
  • Manage product penetration through the use of business visits, virtual events, financial educational opportunities, community activities, mail campaigns, marketing enrollments, and calling programs.
  • Develop and establish referral opportunities within SEG groups to prompt existing members to recommend new members and add services.
  • Manage SEG groups to ensure their retail members are completely satisfied with the services they receive.
  • Promote the entire product portfolio within each SEG group; manage sales activities efficiently and effectively remotely at SEG partner locations.
  • Oversee, identify, and support member growth, upsell and cross sell initiatives; driving member acquisition, activation, retention, and cross-sell/upsell opportunities within Freedom's existing SEG relationships
  • Support and execute the strategic plan for outreach and penetration of Baltimore, Carroll, Harford counties and Baltimore City.
  • Responsible for the management and negotiation of SEG contracts and donations in the portfolio, as well as identifying new opportunities.
  • Provide input on creative programs to support all business development and marketing efforts to nurture and continue penetration of SEG groups.
  • Identify, create, and establish calling programs, marketing enrollments, business visits, educational opportunities, community activities, mail campaigns, and outbound calling. Identify, develop, and establish referral opportunities within SEG groups to prompt existing members to continually recommend new members and add services.
  • Manage SEG relationships to ensure members are completely satisfied with the services they receive; actively promote the entire product Freedom Federal Credit Union portfolio within each SEG group
  • Manage the Business Development reporting and audit process to ensure report accuracy, new account set up compliance, and activity results.
  • Responsible for working effectively with other departments within Freedom to identify opportunities for new relationships to maximize revenue for the Credit Union.
  • Responsible for the identification of Business Development training opportunities within Freedom including directly working with Learning & Development and implementation for both new hires and existing team members.
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining a symbiotic relationship between Business Development and other departments within Freedom which supports consistency within Freedom as well as supporting member satisfaction and retention.
  • Oversee new member onboarding process to ensure 100% service satisfaction with the new members within each SEG member group.
  • Support Member Services and Business Banking to generate new business relationships within Freedom's field of membership.
  • Represent Freedom at special SEG-specific events, such as new employee orientations, open enrollments, open houses, health fairs, and other SEG meetings, to provide value and education, to those employees, and new member acquisition, and product penetration opportunities to Freedom.
  • Identify opportunities and participate actively in community organizations which provide networking opportunities for achieving profitable business relationships, such as chambers of commerce, business trade associations, rotary clubs, etc.
  • Stay current with competitive SEG programs/information and communicate this information regularly to the Director of Business Development.
  • Assist in the development of new services and modifications of existing services, processes, and communications, to support SEG penetration and development.
  • Provide feedback to respective internal departments regarding member concerns, quality issues, and product acceptance. Recommend solutions to problems, product enhancements and operational changes when appropriate.

  • Market Analysis: Keeping up to date with relevant developments and opportunities in the community.
  • Established Presence within Baltimore County, Baltimore City and Carroll County:
  • Strong knowledge of the business and organizational makeup of Baltimore County, Baltimore City and Carroll County with an established networking presence and relationships within the Baltimore County, Baltimore City and Carroll County business community.
  • Customer and Personal Service: Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services; including a clear understanding of meeting Member Service Standards, customer needs assessment, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Sales and Marketing: Knowledge of principles and methods for showing, promoting, and selling products or services; including marketing strategy and tactics, product demonstration, sales techniques, and sales control systems.
  • Product and Services Knowledge: Keeping up to date on financial products and services, technical applications and applying new knowledge to your job; including a clear understanding of Freedom products and services and using materials that assist in this delivery of service.
  • Active Listening: Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.

Required Experience

  • High School diploma or GED; associate or bachelor's degree in relevant field preferred
  • A minimum of four (4) years of experience in business development, with a significant portion in a credit union environment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of credit union products, services, and best practices.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Requires the ability to work during off hours, including early morning, evenings, and weekends
  • Requires the ability to drive a motor vehicle to numerous events throughout the counties and cities in which we serve
  • Valid Driver's License required

Interpersonal Skills

A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required to be an effective subject matter expert in the position. In-depth dialogues, conversations, and explanations with members, direct and indirect reports, and outside vendors of a sensitive and/or highly confidential nature is a normal part of the day-to-day experience. Communications can involve motivating, influencing, educating, and/or advising others on matters of significance.
