Overview

Abacus Technology is seeking a Telecommunications Mechanic II to support the installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of Inside Plant (ISP) and Outside Plant (OSP) telecommunications infrastructure at Fort Bragg. This is a full-time position.



Responsibilities

    Install, maintain, and repair network cabling, VoIP telephony systems, and fiber optic infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot network switch connectivity, fiber splicing, and termination issues.
  • Perform secure cable drop installations for SIPRNET and NIPRNET.
  • Install, move, and remove telecommunications equipment, including POTS phones, wall-mounted units, and network switches.
  • Conduct inspections, quality assurance testing, and maintenance checks to ensure system integrity.
  • Ensure network cable installations meet DISA STIG, RMF, and Army security requirements.
  • Implement cable management best practices to prevent unauthorized access or interference.
  • Secure and label ISP/OSP infrastructure following industry and DoD standards.
  • Diagnose and resolve connectivity issues, fiber optic failures, and VoIP disruptions.
  • Perform testing and certification of installed cabling using FLUKE or equivalent test equipment.
  • Work with network engineers and system administrators to address cable-related network performance issues.
  • Ensure all repairs and upgrades meet Army network performance standards.
  • Document fiber optic splicing records, cable test results, and infrastructure changes.
  • Support network audits and inspections, ensuring full compliance with telecommunications policies.
  • Provide technical guidance to IT teams, construction personnel, and end-users on network and telephony systems.
  • Assist in training junior technicians on ISP/OSP best practices and safety procedures.
  • Respond to service requests, trouble tickets, and emergency maintenance calls as required.


Qualifications

3+ years experience in telecommunications, network cable installation, and OSP/ISP maintenance. Bachelor's degree in a related field desired. Must be Security+ certified (or hold an equivalent certification in compliance with IAT Level II). Must hold the following certifications: BICSI Installer 1 (INST1) and Installer 2 (INST2); BICSI Optical Fiber (INSTF); and JNCIA-Junos (JN0-103). Proficient in network cable installation, termination, and testing (CAT-6, fiber optic, and coaxial cables). Experience troubleshooting ISP/OSP infrastructure, including structured cabling, network drops, and telephony services. Strong understanding of BICSI, IEEE 802.11, and TIA/EIA industry standards for network and fiber optic installations. Able to work in confined spaces, follow safety procedures, and support emergency repair tasks. Experience with SIPRNET, NIPRNET, and secure network cabling environments. Familiar with military telecommunications standards, including network encryption and physical security measures. Able to interact professionally with all levels of an organization. Must be a US citizen and hold a current Secret clearance.
