West Virginia University's Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design (WVU DCANRD) is seeking applications for a Trades Specialist Lead II. About the Opportunity The Trades Specialist Lead II coordinates, participates in, and directs the activities of assigned crews in the performance of various maintenance activities. Provides leadership and guidance in all craft areas to fulfill work requirements within the University REOCs under all operating conditions. Trade Specialist Lead II is the 2nd of two levels in the lead class. We strongly believe in work-life balance and keeping time for things we love outside our work. What You'll do:
- Performs mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and carpentry repairs as the situation requires. Assists shop personnel with emergency repairs when necessary.
- Applies broad knowledge to perform a spectrum of building construction, renovation, and maintenance of facilities of the REOC system.
- Supervision and completion of tasks to include construction of concrete forms, pouring and finishing of concrete, build/install decking, scaffolding, interior and exterior walls, roof rafters, siding, flooring, plumbing, interior and exterior doors, windows, and trim. Roofs and re-roofs buildings, installs gutters, and any other construction, repairs or renovations required for buildings.
- Operate heavy equipment, digging, landscaping, backfilling, operate equipment and trucks.
- Functions as a team leader, providing guidance to journeymen, trades workers, and any other support personnel as required. Follows procedures and makes work assignments to those individuals assigned to the crew to ensure work is completed in a timely fashion and to ensure proper quality and quantity.
- Inspects completed work assignments of journeymen craft workers, trades workers, and helpers to ensure quality control. Ensures that proper safety procedures are used while performing job duties.
- Specific knowledge is applied to install conveyors and make repairs. Replace electric motors, troubleshoot electric problems. This may include panel boxes, conduit, wiring, outlets, switches, replace old electrical services.
- Reads and reviews prints on new and existing building projects for repair or construction associated with specific job duties and expertise. Assists with information for development of as-built sketches of completed projects.
- Determines and recommends to the Operations Manager the needs of the project regarding crew size, types of crafts, material availability, equipment, paperwork, safety checks to maintain proper work, and material flow in order to maintain schedule.
- Serves as back-up to supervisor as necessary.
- Inventories assigned work tools of crews. Assists in interviewing of candidates. Assists in the detailed design of projects. Must be able to respond when called during off hours to cover emergency situations.
- Performs related duties as assigned or as directed.
Pay Grade: 15 Hours: 7:00am to 3:00pm
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- One of the following:
- Two (2) years' experience in general trades building maintenance experience in the areas of basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, or other craft trades
- Completion of an associate degree in building maintenance or other craft trade
- Completion of a 2-year accredited vocational craft trades program.
- Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
- All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Working knowledge of the materials, methods, tools, equipment, and occupational hazards and safety precautions of the building maintenance field to include carpentry, electrical, HVAC, welding, soldering, plumbing, asbestos, and pneumatics.
- Demonstrated ability to function as team leader and provide guidance to assigned employees.
- Demonstrated ability to properly train employees how to use tools and equipment, how to use various computer programs, and how complete various maintenance task.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate work schedules, communicate with personnel at all levels of the assignment, define scope of work, and maintain efficiency.
- Demonstrated ability to use and operate all appropriate hand and power tools and equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to read blueprints and electrical schematics.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal building, safety, and fire codes
- Demonstrated ability to follow purchasing procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer.
Preferred Qualifications:
- One (1) year experience leading and/or training others.
Requirements
- Valid driver's license
- OSHA 10-hour certification (within one year of hire)
- CPR and First Aid certification (within one year of hire)
