Responsible for the daily operations and long-range planning of Diagnostic Imaging Services to include Diagnostic Radiology, Computed Tomography, Mammography, Special Procedures, Angiography, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, CT Scanning, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, and evolving technologies. Oversees budgeting and assumes overall financial responsibility for the department. Collaborates with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure the smooth operation of the department and provide exceptional patient care. Supervises the Radiology Operations Manager, and provides support and guidance as needed for escalated/ highly complex staffing issues.
- Prepares the annual budget to include revenue projections; departmental expenses & salaries; capital equipment; short- & long-term plans.
- Provides leadership to the manager of Radiology Operations and assists/collaborates with oversight on all diagnostic leads. Reports complex staffing needs and recommendations for change to Administration.
- Evaluates new products and equipment and forwards recommendations for purchase based upon research to the COO.
- Provides assistance to Radiology Operations manager when needed with staff scheduling, work rotations, in-service education and the scheduling of staff meetings. Interviews and hires qualified candidates. Performs criteria-based evaluations of staff. Responsible for corrective action, when necessary. Reports staffing needs and recommendations for change to Administration.
- Maintains and reports monthly volume statistics to the CFO for department productivity reporting.
- Prepares and implements a department specific Quality Assurance Plan to ensure compliance with acceptable standards of care. Assists the Medical Director with peer review activities as warranted.
- Assists the Radiation Safety Officer in the implementation of department specific Radiation Safety Programs and hospital-wide Radiation Safety. Ensures adherence to the Department of Public Health Radiation Control Program ALARA Guidelines. Responds to Federal, State and local inspections in order to remain in compliance with acceptable standards.
- Prepares and maintains department specific policies, procedures and protocols and reports according to JCAHO Standards to include Radiation Safety, General Fire, Fire Safety, Infection Control, Quality Control, Quality Assurance, Education and Personnel qualifications.
- Prepares, maintains or amends policies and procedures developed in cooperation with the Medical Staff, Administration, Nursing Services and other clinical or support services to ensure quality of care and overall safety.
- May assist with patient care within imaging departments as needed due to staffing and acuity.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree and 5 years of diagnostic imaging experience, and 3 years of management experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
- Experience with Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word
Preferred Education and Experience
- Master's preferred
- Meditech experience preferred.
Certifications/Licenses
- MA State Radiology License required
- AART certification required
