The School of Arts and Sciences (
SAS) at Rutgers University is the largest academic unit of the University and is comprised of 41 academic departments spanning humanities, social, physical and life sciences and over 100 different majors, plus programs, centers, bureaus and institutes.
SAS has a membership of over 2,000 permanent and temporary faculty (instructional and research), teaching and graduate assistants, part-time lecturers, and post-doctoral appointees, and over 500 administrative staff.

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Assistant Director, Supervisor for the School of Arts and Sciences.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
- Provides overall administrative and financial management and supervision of the daily operations and performance of a complex group of academic/research departments and centers, including, but not limited to, the departments of Art History and Jewish Studies.
- Ensures accurate, compliant, and timely processing of requests and transactions and professional, prompt, and courteous service to diverse clients.
- Develops, restructures, and supervises the implementation of procedures and controls.
- Supervises the full-time staff, hourly staff, and student employees in various departments/units.
- Provides oversight, facilitation, and supervision of support and policy interpretation; purchasing, personnel administration (both Faculty and Staff); space and facilities planning; major event design, promotion, and implementation; and business/financial processes and transactions.
- Resolves a diverse range of problems consistent with an understanding of the mission, vision, role, and goals of the departments and units and SAS and with a comprehensive understanding of administration/office management in accordance with management principles, applicable regulations, and SAS and university policies and procedures.
- Interprets, communicates, and implements policies and practices for differing needs of a diverse client population.
- Establishes performance standards and conducts evaluations in consultation with the Department Chairs and Program Directors have the authority to hire and fire staff in the departments and centers.
- Works independently with broadly defined work objectives and limited review of overall results.
- Performs professional work that requires specialized to general knowledge in one or more fields of management/administration and a solid understanding, use, and application of concepts, theories, principles, practices, regulations, and terminology.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- A bachelor's degree in higher education administration, public administration, management, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates comprehensive knowledge and understanding of management and administrative principles and practices.
- A minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in an administrative function, excellent communication skills, and computer literacy.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Prior experience providing administrative support to an academic unit (SAS unit preferred).
- Experience as a Preparer of Approver for finance, human resources and payroll, procurement and expense management processes.
- Prior experience using SAS systems.

- PC, Fax/Scan, Oracle Financial Management, PeopleSoft, Concur Travel & Expense Reimbursement, Marketplace and SAS systems for appointments and department data.
