How You'll Help Transform Healthcare:

You will be responsible for providing financial management and pre-award support for the Department of Medicine (DOM) Clinical Research Unit. The role will support pre-award activities related to grant and contract submissions, including the development of detailed budgets. Additionally, the position will oversee post award financial management of research studies, which includes ongoing review, analysis and reporting of financial activity to ensure alignment with sponsor requirements and compliance with federal regulations. You will participate in monthly financial reviews with Principal Investigators and other DOM Research Leadership. The role will support the ongoing optimization, evaluation, and implementation of technologies supporting Carilion's research activities.

Additional duties many include but not limited:

  • To serve as financial liaison between leadership, operations, and other centralized functions; to provide financial guidance and expertise to all Carilion entities and management; to prepare financial studies, evaluations and analyses.
  • Communicates complex financial information concisely and comprehensively in an easy to understand manner while maintaining composure when confronted by difficult discussions.
  • Educates and trains internal and external stakeholders on financial themes.
  • Leads process improvement projects.
  • Makes recommendations for change management, monitors results, and offers suggestions on course correction.
  • Analyzes data and trends, prepares business plans/proposals/analyses and critically thinks through projects and next steps required for sound decision making.
  • Researches and benchmarks data to recommend application of concepts to daily operations.
  • Multitasks and prioritizes multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrates strong accountability and follow-through skills as well as a desire for continuous improvement.
  • Performs detailed work timely with a high degree of accuracy and can ensure reasonableness of work.
  • Works independently on planning process and business forecasting.
What We Require:

Education: College graduate with Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration or related field.

Experience: 3 plus years finance or accounting experience. Healthcare preferred.

Other Minimum Qualifications: Advanced knowledge of Excel and forecasting models.
