Overview
Job Purpose ICE is looking for an analyst for the Oil Market Research and Business Development team. ICE continues to grow and evolve its oil product set and position its benchmarks to continue to meet the needs of our customers for hedging, trading, and investment. The analyst will be part of an analytical team that supports the development of new oil contracts and the evolution of existing contracts. The analytical team is embedded within the Oil Sales Team and supports its work. The analyst will contribute to the robust research and development effort to continuously monitor changes in the physical petroleum markets around the world to identify issues and opportunities that need attention. Responsibilities
- Provide support for the senior members of the research/business development team as needed, in the following areas:
- Price analysis, including statistical analysis
- Fundamental analysis, including supply, demand, trade flows, and inventories for global and regional crude oil and refined products.
- Quantitative research, including analysis of prices and differentials for crude oil and refined products, the forward curves, open interest, and investor flows, including Commitment of Traders data
- Assist senior members of the research/business development team with routine and ad-hoc written reports, both internal and external.
- Assist senior members of the research/business development team with developing and maintaining PowerPoint presentations.
- Provide quantitative research/analysis and written reports for the research/business development team.
- Provide support to the Oil Sales Team on a routine and ad-hoc basis.
- Provide support to other business units of ICE, as required to support the oil business.
- Strictly observe and adhere to all ICE compliance and regulatory requirements, including all required training and procedures.
Knowledge and Experience
- Bachelor's degree required. A major in economics, business, engineering, or science would be preferred. MBA or other advanced degree would be a plus.
- 2+ years of experience in oil market analysis or oil trading or oil risk management, either for a commercial oil market participant (producer, consumer, refiner, physical trader), with a financial oil market participant or oil investor (such as a hedge fund or asset manager), with an oil/energy market consulting firm or with an investment bank.
- Knowledge of the oil markets, both physical markets and futures/derivatives markets
- Knowledge of oil hedging/risk management practices and techniques and/or oil investment practices and techniques
- For the oil markets, know how to research and understand the crude oil and refined product markets, both in general and for specific research topics, questions, or issues. Know how to synthesize and summarize information and data. Critical thinking skills are important and essential. Know how to identify key issues and questions. Know how to recommend logical next steps when researching an oil market topic.
- For oil market analysis and quantitative analysis, need to be able to communicate and discuss that analysis in writing, verbally, and via presentations.
- Technical skills
- Advanced Excel, including VBA and macro development
- Statistical analysis, such as regression analysis
- Tableau
- Experience with oil price, data, and information providers such as Refinitiv/Eikon (former Reuters) or S&P Global (former Platts)
- Experience with other coding/programming languages, Power BI, Database querying, Python and knowledge of SQL a plus
- Outstanding communications skills required, both written and verbal
- Must have strong attention to detail
- Must have strong ability to follow instructions
- Must be a strong team player
- Desire to learn and willingness to ask questions. Must be comfortable in a "challenge and debate" environment.
New York Base Salary Range
The expected base salary for this role, if located in New York, is between $100,000 - 165,000 USD. The base salary range does not include Intercontinental Exchange's incentive compensation. While we provide this range as general guidance, at ICE we compensate employees based on the skillset and experience of the individual.
