This position will be located in our Menlo Park, CA or Boston, MA office, with hybrid working. Job Purpose
This role will be responsible for supporting Investment Directors to build and manage a portfolio of technology startups. The Principal will work closely with Investment Directors and other team members in driving all aspects of investments, including defining segments of interest, sourcing investment opportunities, performing due diligence, providing a detailed analysis in picking startups, and helping close and support startup investments. He/she will be responsible for developing financial models, competitive analysis, and helping with portfolio valuation modeling. The Principal should also increase our reputation and thought leadership around energy transition innovation by visibly participating across the venture capital and energy eco-systems. The Principal will have some experience in supporting investors in all stages of venture capital investing, preferably in energy, critical infrastructure and enterprise sectors. Key Accountabilities
* Help Investment Directors complete investments that support our focus areas * Help Investment Directors define investment strategies * Build a pipeline of leading startups that fit with the strategic investment themes * For potential new investments, help Investment Directors develop a complete understanding of an emerging company by evaluating its market opportunity, competition, product, sales and growth, operations, financial statements and projections, management strength, equity needs, and capital structure * Develop market landscapes and points-of-view on emerging trends * Work with and support portfolio companies as required by Investment Directors * Network extensively with entrepreneurs, other venture capital funds and Utilities Qualifications
* 3+ years of experience at a top-tier venture capital firm, or major corporation venture capital group OR a recent MBA from a top-tier business school. * Solid mastery of financial modeling and analytical skills. * Excellent communications and inter-personal skills with high risk tolerance. * Highly developed analytical skills with ability to define issues, collect and analyze pertinent data, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions, draw valid conclusions, propose sound recommendations, and implement approved solutions in support of specified goals; attention to detail is critical * Undergraduate degree in Business, Science or Engineering is preferred. Advanced degree / MBA strongly preferred (not required). * A strong strategic thinker, with the ability to see the big picture, but also address shorter term more tactical issues. * Experience in the energy or industrial sector strongly preferred (not required) * Highly technology literate, with significant experience of understanding the business and strategic implications of technology change More Information Salary $161k - $227k a year in Menlo Park, CA. $150k - $211k a year in Boston, MA.
