Job Description

  • Compensation : $22.00-27.00
  • Start Date: May 2025
  • End Date : December 2025 will likely be extensions through 2029
  • Location: Evanston, Ft. Bridger, Lyman, Mountain View WY
  • Additional Details:

    • Training will be provided for all survey efforts and job-related activities
    • Candidates must provide their own suitable footwearsafety toed footwear (steel or composite-toe), appropriate field clothing and gear.
    • Other required PPE will be provided
    • A work vehicle or mileage reimbursement will be provided
    • Skill with ATV/UTV is a plus





Job Description:



  • Conduct fatality monitoring for eagle fatalities beneath operating wind turbines.
  • Monitor eagle flight activity and activate curtailment in response to eagle activity near turbines.


The successful candidate for this position will be:



  • Capable of field and in-hand (via specimen) identification, aging, and sexing of birds.
  • Prepared for long days in a range of temperatures and weather conditions.
  • Fatality monitoring will entail long hours of walking, sometimes in inclement conditions.
  • Candidate must be comfortable with hazards typical of the environment (sharp vegetation, driving a four-wheel drive vehicle, dust, snow, extreme heat and cold).
  • Hours worked is between 30-40 hours per week and may require overtime.
  • Technician will be required to follow all safety protocols for WEST and the wind energy facilities.
  • Technician will be expected to use good judgment to stay safe and work efficiently.

Job Requirements

Requirements:



  • Bachelor's Degree in Natural Resources, Wildlife Management, Wildlife Biology, or an equivalent degree preferred, but job experience may substitute.
  • Preference for biologist experienced in avian use surveys specifically point-count surveys; candidates with higher-level birding skills will be given preference
  • Precise and thorough data collection is essential
  • Must be able to use compass, global positioning system devices, binoculars, range finders, tablets, and digital cameras; as well as maintain equipment
  • Able to work independently or as part of a team, and interact positively with project manager, field supervisor, landowners, and other technicians
  • Employee must be able to appear for work on time (early mornings will be common)
  • Maintain focus for long periods of time
  • Follow instructions from manager and team leader
  • Maintain positive attitude and accept guidance and constructive criticism



Physical Requirements:



  • Applicants must be in good physical condition, as surveys will be conducted in locations where temperatures and conditions can be extreme.
  • Ability to walk long distances (10+ miles) in extreme heat
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs

A valid driver's license will be required. Candidates must adhere to all health and safety requirements.
