As an Operations Supervisor-Field Services, Here's What You'll Do:

The Operations Supervisor - Field Services is responsible for managing the day-to-day operational performance of railcar repair operations in Houston, Texas. The position is accountable for leading and managing railcar repair events via direct contact with the customer base while ensuring a positive financial return on tasks performed. In addition to the financial responsibility, this position will ensure safety, quality, and environmental responsibilities are realized. This role is responsible for staff development, succession planning, and motivating site personnel to achieve all strategic business objectives.

Role and Responsibilities:



  • Set an example and conduct activities consistent with the core values of CFRS, contributing to a positive environment for communication, empowerment, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead all employees in the safety initiatives and adhere to all railcar safety procedures.
  • Supervise and direct a workforce of between 1 to 20 employees in the mechanical servicing of railcar rolling stock in accordance with established quality control, engineering, safety, and customer standards while complying with established repair schedules.
  • Ensure that the location/workforce is managed, so that key performance measurements meet or exceed budgeted goals and standards, i.e., efficiency, net income, labor hours, delays, cross-over, etc.
  • Plan, organize, and supervise production in accordance with priority goals and availability of resources to ensure adequate and timely customer service needs are met.
  • Perform in-process quality inspections.
  • Communicate location performance to site personnel to ensure consistent and efficient production flow.
  • Utilize technical experience, expertise, and problem-solving abilities to achieve and maintain a quality repair.
  • Maintain an efficient workforce by training, counseling, and motivating staff.
  • Ensure that all necessary documents, including regulatory ones, are accurate and completed on a timely basis.
  • Ensure the appropriate applications of the labor time collection, quality standards, safety rules, and other mobile site work rules as defined by the Company. If appropriate, initiate corrective action when necessary.
  • Assist in employee personnel matters, including hiring, recognition, development, discipline, training, and termination.
  • This position interacts and coordinates with all other positions within the repair facility.
  • Maintain an adequate quantity of all necessary material and supplies required to operate the repair facility in keeping with safety, quality, productivity, cost, and economic earnings.
  • Coordinate reporting with all necessary personnel; key functional groups include customers, engineers, estimators, supply vendors, material supervisors, and site management.
  • Ensure that the facility meets and operates within all applicable CFRS, local, state, and federal regulations in safety, environmental, labor, and transportation.
  • Coordinates repair activities to meet the quality requirements of customers, CFRS, and all regulatory agencies.
  • Promote the repair facility within the community through involvement and support of projects that enhance the living standards of the community.
  • Participates with bids and quotes for railcar repairs/projects
  • Interacts with customers to ensure satisfaction, manage customer expectations, and set agreed-upon production goals.
  • Ensures site assets are maintained proactively.
  • Maintain an adequate quantity of all necessary material and supplies required to operate an efficient repair operation in keeping with safety, quality, productivity, cost, and economic earnings.


  • Here's What it Will Take to be Successful in this Role:


  • Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school.


Skills



  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and BRC generation software/shop operating system.
  • Ability to deliver a high level of customer service via phone and face-to-face interaction.
  • Team player
  • Effective listening skills


  • Highly effective communication skills verbally and in writing.
  • Strong knowledge of computer applications, including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office Suite and Workforce Now (ADP) to manage accurate work team time accounting.
  • Basic AAR auditor training.
  • AAR Advanced Auditor certification.
  • Basic finance and accounting knowledge (KPI's, income statements, budgeting, margin, NOC, etc.).
  • Proven leadership track record
  • Effective Interviewing technique
  • Ability to conduct effective performance reviews
  • Experience in Lean Sigma.
  • Participate in internal/external training; TBD by management.


Physical Demands

Work assignments involve standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, climbing, crawling, and crouching in strained and awkward positions for prolonged periods of time at various heights up to 20 feet. Uses hands, legs, and arms to climb vertical ladders to staging or suspended platforms. Lifts, carries, and sets up equipment and components that weigh up to 50 lbs. Employee must be medically certified to wear a respirator, as well as be able to wear respirators for prolonged periods of time.

Working Conditions

Work will be performed outdoors and indoors in all types of weather, on and around heavy equipment.
