Position Summary:

This is the second level of the Operational Technology (OT) Analyst classification hierarchy. Employees at this level solve more complex problems, in areas of specialization, with general supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and the ability to work with greater independence. They effectively apply fundamental concepts and procedures to work that is fairly complex and varied. They are increasing their competence in both business (Operations) and technology (IT) concepts and procedures, with emphasis on the special operational requirements involved in maintaining a real time, computer based control/management system to operate the electric grid

Responsibilities:
  • Provides technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of issues of increasing scope and complexity in area of responsibility.

  • Contributes to team decision-making in the accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities; deals with changing priorities and differing situations and makes decision that may affect the work of the team.

  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships within business and technology groups, industry peers, and vendors.

  • Learns the critical linkage between the business needs/value and the technology platforms that deliver business value.

  • Possesses knowledge of the organization; gains knowledge of existing and emerging technologies, issues, processes and practices.

  • Provides system administration, development, and support of Transmission Operational Technology applications for the Energy Management System.

  • Performs NERC CIP and O&P compliance activities such as CIP-009 disaster recovery tests, security patch review/implementation, documenting ports/services required for EMS applications to function and tests to ensure that no single failure exists in network components.

  • Collaborates with internal and external telecom/firewall personnel, Transmission Compliance and Corporate CIP compliance personnel to ensure CIP compliance. Serves as the lead interface between Transmission Operational Technology and other compliance organizations.

  • Maintains EMS application security/permissions.

Required/Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or Other Technical Degree

  • In addition to required degree, two (2) or more years related work experience

  • In lieu of Bachelors degree(s) AND two (2) or more years related work experience listed above, High School/GED AND eight (8) or more years related work experience

Additional Preferred Qualifications
  • Applicable experience in the utility industry.

  • Applicable experience in an Operational Technology role.

  • Previous power system engineering experience

  • Previous experience with electric transmission systems, including NERC Transmission reliability standards and CIP standards.

  • Previous experience with real time computer systems, including programming languages (C++, etc.), scripting languages (PYTHON, Power Shell, etc.)

  • Previous experience with General Electric Grid EMS/DMS systems

Working Conditions
  • Hybrid - Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to the designated Duke Energy facility.
