Job Description

The Legislative and Regulatory Counsel provides legal advice and counsel on behalf of the Government and Industry Relations group. The position collaborates and aligns on strategy, action planning, and communication with client, business units, and other areas of Law & Regulation. This role will draft, circulate, and socialize draft bills to determine impact and maintain favorable legislative and regulatory environments. Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and identify supportive coalition partners related to issue advocacy and lobbying
  • Draft, circulate, and socialize draft bills and regulations amongst interested parties, both internal and external, for internal consensus and to determine impact
  • Develop, collaborate, lobby and provide testimony for legislative and regulatory proceedings
  • Prepare ALLPAC and/or corporate contribution budgets
  • Review and analyze draft Report on Examination and prepare response to draft report
  • Negotiate with government agencies and regulators
  • Determine and implement strategy for resolving compliance issues (e.g., engagement with insurance departments and collaboration with internal business partners)
  • Serve on compliance project teams as needed to provide legal and strategic advice.
  • The Legislative and Regulatory Counsel reports enacted legislation to the business
  • Collaboration with outside counsel, state and national trade groups and lobbyists
  • Travel required within the Mid-Atlantic region (MD, NJ, PA, DE & Washington, D.C.). Various engagements may include: State Trade Association meetings, advocacy In State Houses, meetings with regulators and other stakeholders, and business unit meetings outside of the Mid-Atlantic.
Education

* Juris Doctor (Required) and active membership in good standing within state of practice

Experience

* 10 or more years of experience (Preferred)

Supervisory Responsibilities

* This job does not have supervisory duties.

Compensation

Compensation offered for this role is $141,800.00 - 219,200.00 annually and is based on experience and qualifications.

The candidate(s) offered this position will be required to submit to a background investigation.
