Job Description:

Oregon State Treasury is looking for a Claims Examiner to join our Unclaimed Property team. This position plays a pivotal role in reuniting unclaimed property with the rightful owners. Unclaimed property includes things like bank accounts, uncashed paychecks, stocks or dividends, insurance payouts, utility deposits, and safe deposit box contents. This position will review unclaimed property claims received by the state, evaluate claim documentation to determine entitlement to the unclaimed property, research to validate information and documentation provided, and decide on claim approval or next steps.

Position Responsibilities

  • Processes a variety of claims and garnishments in accordance with relevant statutes, administrative rules and within relevant deadlines.

  • Reviews and evaluates claims documentation to determine whether a claimant is entitled to the unclaimed property they are claiming.

  • Requests additional documentation to address evidence gaps or inconsistencies, if needed.

  • Performs independent research to validate information submitted by the claimant to protect against fraudulent documentation.

  • Approves claims once evidence is sufficient.

Work Schedule

This position will have the opportunity for a hybrid (remote and in-office) work location schedule; in-office work will be from Treasury's office in Salem. This position will have:

  • 2 days in office every week.

  • One additional day per month for an in-person team meeting.

  • Up to 5 days a week in office expected during training period, which may take 1-3 months.

Salary Range

$50,484 - $70,104 annually.

Job Classification

This position is classified as a Public Service Representative 4. This position is a SEIU represented position .

Required Minimum Qualifications

Three years of experience performing public contact and/or customer service duties comparable to the work of a Public Service Representative.

At least two years of this experience must include dealing with the public in-person or by phone providing information about services and programs; explaining rules, programs, and procedures; and/or providing assistance, explaining requirements, and gaining compliance.
