Position Summary

The Staff Accountant's primary accounting responsibilities include, but are not limited to, period-end closing duties, management of fixed assets and leases, financial reporting and analysis, and balance sheet reconciliations. Further, as a shared services position, this role will support various accounting and finance initiatives. Domestic travel may be required.

Essential Skills and Functions



  • Responsible for accurate preparation of journal entries, intercompany entries and intercompany cost allocations
  • Preparation and reporting of fixed assets and leases in compliance with IFRS accounting standards
  • Analyze general ledger accounts and prepare periodic reconciliations to ensure accurate and timely financial information
  • Actively participate in the month-end and year-end close processes related to sub ledger activities
  • Gather and support various Corporate Tax related requests
  • Prepare and assist with annual audit schedules for external auditors as needed
  • Support Finance with data analysis and preparation as needed
  • Support various accounting initiatives by conducting research, working with different departments
  • Provide ad hoc support to the Finance Department as needed
  • Must have strong Microsoft Office Suites computer skills
  • Must have strong organizational, time management, written and verbal communication skills
  • Must have ability to maintain confidentiality and a professional demeanor
  • All employees are required to adhere to ISO and OHSAS policies established by FMG and shall have high values for safety awareness
  • Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands and Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and occasionally stand or walk; use hands to handle materials or equipment; reach with hands and arms; stoop and kneel; and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee's workspace is in a clean and comfortable climate-controlled setting with little to no exposure to the moving equipment, elements, extreme conditions, or risk of injury. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. When entering the shipyard, areas of the work environment may not be climate-controlled and there is exposure to moving equipment, etc.

Education and Experience



  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Previous experience preferred
  • Experience with Baan, Epicor and SAP and working knowledge of ERP system is a plus
