Job Description

As the pioneer and world leader of the oil-free centrifugal compressor product category with its award winning Variable Speed, Magnetic Bearing Compressors, Danfoss Turbocor, Tallahassee FL, is dedicated to the design, manufacture, marketing and support of the world's most efficient commercial refrigerant compressors. The result is the world's first totally oil-free compressor specifically designed for the HVAC industry.Power Electronics Engineering is pivotal in further enhancing the efficiency of compressors and making them more rugged and reliable for long term use in high availability installations like Data center cooling, comfort cooling and process cooling applications.The Electronics Engineering team is working on multiple projects to develop new variable speed motor drive platform and magnetic levitation bearing electronics for our next generation of products. The successful candidate will play an integral part in developing this new exciting platform based on industry leading technologies.

This is an onsite position at our Turbocor Global Headquarters in Tallahassee, FL.

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:



  • Technical responsibility in all aspects of power electronics design including

    • Product/Component requirements
    • Component selection and evaluation
    • Circuit design, analysis and debugging (analog, digital and power converters)
    • PCB layout design and manufacturing documentation
    • Components, circuits, modules and system integration
    • Functional/Reliability verification and validation
    • Product certification support (e.g. IEC, UL, CSA, CE, FCC, etc...)
    • Production Test Specifications
    • Failure mode root cause analysis and corrective actions


  • Responsible for maintaining up to date knowledge of development environment, simulation tools and industry trends
  • Work collaboratively within the team and with other teams at Danfoss Turbocor
  • Participate in new technology research and development projects as requested
  • Domestic and international travel up to 15%

Background & Skills

Required Qualifications



  • Minimum bachelor's degree in Electrical / Electronics Engineering with minimum of 3 years of experience in power electronics
  • Sound knowledge and experience in traditional and modern power electronic technologies including (not limited to):

    • Inverter technology for motor variable speed drive (IGBT, MOSFET, rectifiers and gate driver PWM/PAM technologies)
    • Passive power components, e.g. inductors, capacitors, resistors and transformers.


  • Experience with Power Amplifier design using IGBTs preferred
  • Experience with test equipment like Multimeters, Oscilloscope etc
  • Experience in circuit simulation, transient analysis and thermal cycling analysis
  • Ability to setup tests and experiments for analyzing failures and determining root cause
  • Ability to present analyzed data and gathering feedback from peers
  • Knowledgeable and well informed on new trends in IGBT and Driver Technologies
  • Able to contribute as a member of an organized project team of engineers
  • Strong analytical and technical skills with a thirst to learn more



Preferred Qualifications



  • Master of Science degree in Electrical / Electronics Engineering with focus on Power Electronics
  • Experience with Motor and Power converters (AC-DC, DC-DC, DC-AC, DC-bus Soft charging) control technologies
  • Experience in control circuit and system simulation tools (PSpice, MATLAB, PSIM) preferred
  • Informed on current trends in emerging electronic technologies
  • Open to working in a multinational multifacility manufacturing environment
