Senior Mechatronic Engineer

Job Description Summary

AAM is searching for a Senior Mechatronic Engineer to join our team. This position will be based out of our Advanced Technology Development Center in Detroit, MI.

As a Senior Mechatronic Engineer, you will design, develop, validate, and launch complex mechatronic components for automotive driveline applications. This role requires strategic thinking, cross-disciplinary integration, and expertise in both electrical and mechanical domains. The engineer will also contribute to setting technical guidelines and improving engineering procedures.

The ideal candidate will have 7+ years of mechatronics and program launch experience at an automotive OEM or Tier 1 supplier, along with experience using Unigraphics/NX.

Job Description

  • Gather and analyze customer requirements; translate into clear technical product specifications.

  • Design, develop, and validate mechatronic actuators for automotive driveline applications.

  • Conduct DV (Design Validation) and PV (Production Validation) testing; diagnose and resolve issues during pre-production, production, and End of Line (EOL) phases.

  • Perform electrical, electronic, and mechanical testing to support validation and manufacturing processes.

  • Maintain detailed user documentation, generate validation and test reports throughout the product lifecycle.

  • Engage directly with customers and suppliers, addressing design feedback, and resolving production issues.

  • Participate in design reviews, lessons-learned activities, and development of future product strategies.

  • Apply structured evaluations and methodologies to optimize mechatronic subsystems and driveline components.

  • Support final product authorization, documentation completion, and release to production.

  • Strong knowledge of mechatronic systems, actuator design, and driveline components.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5 + years of automotive mechatronics engineering and launch experience.
  • Proficiency using 3D CAD software.
