The Blueprint (Role Profile)

The Saw Operator is responsible for the operation, monitoring, and minor maintenance of automatic saws used in the production process. This is a 1st shift position, working 4 days a week 10 hours a day Monday through Thursday 5 AM to 3 PM.

The Build (Responsibilities)

  • Set-up, operate, and monitor automatic saws to cut steel to specified lengths according to production orders.
  • Read prints and work orders to complete jobs accurately.
  • Perform quality checks using calipers, tape measures, and other tools and make visual checks to identify nonconformances and troubleshoot errors.
  • Operate manual die grinders and press machines as needed.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on equipment when required.
  • Safety load and unload trucks/containers.
  • Organize, label, and maintain steel yard.
  • Track material usage and production counts.
  • Perform regular cycle counts as requested.
  • Notify supervisor of shortages or other problems that could impact product availability.
  • Move material to and from work area.
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures to produce a quality product, including reporting non-conforming materials and scrap.
  • Report unusual conditions or questionable items to supervisor.
  • Adhere to all safety rules and regulations.
  • Keep work area clean and orderly.
  • Maintain records as required.
  • Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.

The Toolbox (Qualifications)

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 2 years' relevant work experience.
  • Mechanical abilities and experience using hand tools.
  • Able to read and interpret documents including production orders, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures.
  • Basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide) using all units of measure.
  • Previous forklift and overhead hoist operation experience required.
  • Able to work overtime (more than 40 hours per week) including Fridays as required.
  • Stand and walk continuously for 8 hours, if necessary.
  • Climb stairs and ladders.
  • Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Work in a high temperature environment.
