The Anesthesiology Medical Director position at FASC is a vital leadership role dedicated exclusively to overseeing and enhancing anesthetic care within the facility. The Medical Director will supervise a team of six Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) while actively supporting clinical anesthesia services. This role allocates 10-15 hours per month for administrative duties, with the remainder focused on clinical responsibilities. It is essential that the candidate is prepared to perform anesthesiology duties in the operating room, as this is not solely a management position.

Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Anesthesiology Medical Director to join our team at Mary Washington Healthcare FASC. This role is pivotal in overseeing the clinical and administrative functions of our anesthesia department, ensuring the highest standards of patient care and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

Supervision and Support:

  • Lead and supervise a team of 6 Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs).
  • Provide support in Clinical Anesthesia and collaborate effectively with surgeons.

Clinical and Administrative Duties:

  • Allocate 10-15 hours per month for administrative responsibilities.
  • Engage in clinical hours with potential involvement in surgical cases, maintaining active participation in the OR as an Anesthesiologist.

Case Expertise:

  • Manage approximately 6,500 cases annually across various specialties including:
  • Healthy Pediatrics
  • General Surgery: Gallbladder, Hernia
  • Breast Cases: Partial Mastectomy
  • Orthopedics: Hand, Podiatry, Sports Medicine (ACL, Shoulder Repair), Fracture Work
  • Urology: Cystoscopy, Slings, Laser Lithotripsy
  • ENT: Tonsils and Adenoidectomy, Ear Tubes, Septoplasty
  • Gynecology: Hysteroscopy, D&C, Laparoscopic Procedures

Qualifications:

Experience:

  • 5-10 years of relevant experience in Anesthesiology.
  • Fellowship trained in Regional Anesthesia with strong pediatric experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in Ambulatory Anesthesiology.

Skills:

  • Ability to drive departmental expansion and improvements.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills, adept in navigating organizational politics.
  • Approachable, with excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Capable of advocating for best practices and ethical standards.

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM - 5:00 PM.
  • No weekends, holidays, or night shifts.

Growth and Development:

  • Contribute to the vision of increasing OR rooms from 6 to 8, along with adding 2 procedure rooms.
  • Work independently while supporting surgeons in a collaborative environment.
