JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

We are searching for an Engineering Project Manager to join our Mechanical-Electrical Design & Drafting department at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University. ARL/Penn State's purpose is to develop innovative solutions to challenging national problems in support of the Navy, DoD, and Intel communities. In this role you will collaborate with researchers in the review of mechanical and electrical drawings, designs, and documentation in support of ARL research.

You will:

  • Collaborate with researchers in the review of detail/assembly drawings, bills of materials, and other documentation for adherence to standard design guidelines/practices, ASME/ARL standards, and the Product Data Management (PDM) database

  • Drive the change management process of drawings and documents throughout the product lifecycle, including the management of reports, change requests and notices in the PDM system

  • Provide guidance and support to research partners in the use and application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) as well as Configuration Management (CM) protocol

  • Develop expert knowledge in part naming conventions, PDM tool attribute definition, and PDM classification to validate commercial off-the-shelf parts

  • Use past experience and learned knowledge to recommend, develop, and implement internal policies and practices

  • Assist in compiling and organizing data in preparation for Technical Data Package (TDP) deliveries to research customers and government sponsors

  • Train/Mentor and assist junior level designers on Standard Practices

This position can be filled at multiple levels, depending on your education and experience.Minimum requirements include a Bachelor's degree or higher and 1+ years of related experience for the Intermediate Professional level. Additional experience and/or education are required for higher level positions.

Required skills/experience areas include:

  • Knowledge of Engineering Drawing Practices in accordance with the ASME Y14 series of standards

  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing practices in accordance with ASME Y14.5

  • Microsoft Office and Adobe products

Preferred skills/experience areas include:

  • Knowledge of PDM system (Siemens Teamcenter preferred) and Mechanical CAD design software (Siemens NX preferred) and Electrical CAD Design Software (Altium preferred)

  • Understanding of Industry or US Government practices for configuration management

  • Understanding of machining practices (both additive and subtractive preferred)

Your working location will be fully on-site, located in State College, PA.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$76,700.00 - $129,500.00
