Location: This is a hybrid (virtual/onsite) position with required onsite days on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday assigned to Parnalllocated in Jackson, MI. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).


General Summary of Job Responsibilities

The Senior Contracts Manager is responsible for overseeing implementation of the Company's Clean Energy Plan including annual competitive solicitations for the procurement of wholesale electric generation resulting in $1.4 billion in obligations as well as corresponding negotiations of multi-hundred million dollar power purchase agreements (PPAs). Responsibilities also include representing the company as an expert witness in regulatory proceedings and working with Consumers Legal, Credit, Accounting, and other cross-functional teams to represent Consumers Energy's interests in these agreements. The Senior Contracts Manager requires working knowledge of the Company's electric system, MISO energy and capacity markets, MPSC regulation, and business and contract acumen.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

* Lead negotiation and drafting of multi-hundred million dollar valued PPAs resulting from annual competitive solicitations with appropriate contractual, economic and commercial terms and conditions to best serve and protect Company's interests

* Lead all aspects of annual competitive solicitations for the procurement of wholesale electric generation fostering competition to deliver improved performance at a low cost adhering to MPSC guidelines

* Ensure commercial, legal, and contractual compliances in all procurement transactions including company processes, policies and procedures

* Mentoring and coaching of team members

* Oversee regulatory compliance reporting

* Escalation, presentation, and communication with senior leadership

* Expert witness in regulatory proceedings

* Lead negotiations and drafting of more complex amendments to existing PPAs

* Lead third party interactions (internal and external) to build and maintain relationships with suppliers in order to secure positive, constructive and cost effective PPAs for the Company

* Lead negotiations and drafting of relatively straightforward amendments or other agreements to existing PPAs or Master EEI agreements

* Other duties as assigned or may be necessary

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

* Knowledge and understanding of the complete procurement cycle, including experience developing Request for Proposal (RFP) packages

* Knowledge of business law, commercial terms and conditions, and related legal issues

* Proficiency with MS Office suite including advanced Excel, PowerPoint, Word, PowerBI, Service Now, SAP, and Docusign

* Working knowledge of MPSC regulation and business and contract acumen

* Experience creating, analyzing, negotiating, and editing Contracts with Company standards and reflective of business partner interests

* Knowledge of procurement processes and escalation mechanisms. Demonstrate advanced ability to influence stakeholders, deliver customer service, and resolve issues effectively and efficiently

Education/Experience

* Bachelor's degree in technical or business related field with four (4) or more years of experience in contracts, procurement, or related titles within the engineering industry

  • [OR] High School Diploma/GED with eight (8) or more years of experience in contracts, procurement, or related titles within the engineering industry
