: The Senior Accountant II will be responsible for calculating monthly Capex accruals and working with Operations teams to review, analyze and understand monthly gross and net Capex, plus provide internal reporting information to Operations and Accounting leadership. This position requires strong attention to detail and research skills, as well as a high degree of accuracy. The position also requires effective communication skills as well as the ability to pick up on new concepts quickly. This accountant will also support automation efforts to apply continuous improvement principles to the capital accrual process.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Calculate and record monthly Capex accruals in collaboration with operations teams
- Provide analysis on capital expenditures and guidance on appropriate accounting treatment to Operations teams and others within accounting, utilizing general understanding of oil and gas accounting concepts
- Evaluate Capex projects for potential coding errors and provide any necessary corrections
- Compile variance analysis for monthly Capex accruals and Capex incurred to assist in the improvement of overall business performance and operational decisions
- Effectively communicate complex oil and gas accounting concepts to cross-organizational teams
- Assist with the preparation of monthly Capex presentation and present monthly financial results to both Operational and Accounting management teams
- Collaborate with others in accounting and across the organization for projects, as needed
- Manage and assist with various AFE requests as needed
- Provide support and advice to other team members on complex issues or projects
- Other duties or ad hoc projects, analysis or reviews as needed or requested
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree (BBA or BS) Finance, Accounting, or similar discipline
- Five (5+) years of Oil and Gas accounting experience
- Five (5+) or more years of demonstrated experience in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel
- Strong understanding of oil and gas accounting concepts and principles, in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Preferred Qualifications:
- SAP experience preferred
- At least eight (8+) years of Oil and Gas accounting experience preferred
- High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
- Good problem solving and critical thinking skills
- Automation experience utilizing software tools such as Spotfire, SQL, Snowflake, etc.
- Ability to operate both independently and as part of a team
- Eye for continuous improvement opportunities
- Flexible regarding workload and priorities
- Ability to pick up on new concepts quickly
- Effective communication skills to work with all levels of the organization
- Possess a positive and team-oriented attitude
