A Senior Scientist position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Jason Rosch in the Department of Host-Microbe Interactions at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The Rosch lab is interested in dissecting the complex interactions between pathogenic bacteria and the mammalian host with a particular interest in Streptococcus pneumoniae pathogenesis and antibiotic resistance. We take advantage of multidisciplinary approaches and combine techniques from bacteriology, genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry, cellular biology, and immunology with a variety of murine models of infection, to address fundamental questions at the host-pathogen interface. Our goal is to understand the principles of bacterial colonization and pathogenesis to reveal route for therapeutic interventions.
We are looking for an exceptional Senior Scientist to help us lead studies aimed at understanding the host responses to bacterial infections. The individual is expected to lead projects that have both fundamental and translational components. A PhD in either microbiology or immunology (or equivalent experience) and extensive postdoctoral research experience is preferred. Extensive experience with murine models of infection, immunological methods, and flow cytometry techniques to assess the immune response to infection is required. Computational skills are desired but not required. Applicants should have a strong and consistent publication record, exceptional communication and organizational skills, willingness to work in a team atmosphere, willingness to train junior scientists, and should have excellent multitasking abilities. Infectious diseases are the leading cause of death in children worldwide. To confront this, and advance cures and means of prevention, theDepartment of Host-Microbe Interactionshas been created atSt. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The new Department is focusedon fundamental research in the areas of antimicrobial resistance, host-microbe interactions, and immunity. Job Responsibilities:
