Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering (
ESE) focuses on the interface between people and the environment with interdisciplinary programs in air quality, atmospheric processes, human exposure and health effects, and sustainable water resources, drawn from faculty expertise in the physical and life sciences engineering and policy. The Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering (
ESE) is an academic and research department located in the Gillings School of Global Public Health and has 24 faculty, 29 joint and adjunct faculty, 14 administrative staff members, and 7 research staff members. It has about 120 graduate students. The mission of the Gillings School of Global Public Health is to improve public health, promote individual well-being, and eliminate health disparities across North Carolina and around the world. |
Position Summary |
Undergraduate research assistants will support ongoing projects at the Institute for Environmental Health Solutions as part of a structured research training program in environmental health. Students will receive direct mentorship from graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and faculty in the Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering. In addition to research activities, students will participate in seminars, workshops, and other professional development opportunities coordinated by the program.
This initiative represents a new partnership between the Gillings School of Global Public Health and
UNC-Pembroke. The goal is to strengthen environmental health training for undergraduate students at both institutions and to foster collaboration across our schools. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Applicants must be current undergraduate students with course work in a
STEM field and have a demonstrated interest in environmental health research. Interest in how environmental exposures impact human health is encouraged. Prior research experience is not required. |
