Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for a Principal Solid Waste Engineer with at least 10 years of experience to join our solid waste engineering practice in our Boca Raton, Orlando or Tampa, FL offices. You will apply your engineering expertise to projects involving landfills, ash monofills, transfer stations, surface impoundments, geologic and hydrogeologic investigations, solid waste planning, and other solid waste management systems while further developing project and contract opportunities with new and existing clients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Collaboration and mentoring are cornerstones of Geosyntec's culture. We operate under a sell-manage-do culture, and so we expect that you'd work on challenging technical projects while leveraging your existing knowledge and experience to help Geosyntec expand its current practices and capabilities through business development, marketing and client management. The responsibilities of the position include program and project management, staff management and development, as well as mentoring of mid and early career professionals.

Some of the key responsibilities for the position include:

    Client development and expansion of Geosyntec's solid waste (SW) engineering practice and capabilities in Florida.
  • Leading the development of proposals and other business development activities focusing on private and municipal SW clients.
  • Landfill design, civil design, stormwater design, site infrastructure, utilities and roadway layout.
  • Engineering analyses such as slope stability, settlement, hydrologic and landfill gas modeling, and seepage.
  • Preparation of design calculations, drawings, technical specifications, bid documents, and permit applications.
  • Fieldwork coordination and management associated with investigation, design, and construction services.
  • Understanding of local, state, and federal regulations related to solid waste.
  • Occasional fieldwork and out-of-town travel may be required.
  • With ten offices in Florida, location is flexible with central or southeast home base preferred.
  • Travel between offices and routine collaboration with professionals in other offices and regions should be expected.


Education and Licensure

  • Bachelor's degree in civil, environmental, or geotechnical engineering. (required)
  • Advanced degree in civil, environmental, or geotechnical engineering. (preferred)
  • Florida Professional Engineer (P.E.) registration. (required)


Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • At least 10 years (15+ preferred) of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
  • Demonstrated SW Project/Program Management experience. (required)
  • Demonstrated Florida SW regulation and permitting knowledge and expertise. (required)
  • Proven track record in SW client development, marketing and proposal writing for SW consulting services. (required)
  • Strong oral and technical writing skills. (required)
  • Demonstrated professional engineering group and/or applicable technical organization leadership. (preferred)
  • Experience with modeling/design tools such as AutoCAD Civil3D, HELP Model, Slide2, Settle3, Slope/W, Vadose/W, Sigma/W, and ARCGIS. (preferred)
  • Current OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER training and refreshers. (preferred)
  • Field work and overnight travel may be required.
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing may be required.
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
