Transfer Station Supervisor

Job Description:

Supervise day to day operation of transfer station, schedule and load outbound trucks, track materials, as well as maintain equipment to ensure it remains in working condition.

A Day in the Life

  • Completes equipment inspections daily to ensure equipment meets safety requirements and is working properly for daily use.

  • Schedules trucks to move construction debris and recycled debris to appropriate site from Transfer station. This includes scheduling both internal trucks and external independent contractors.

  • Operates equipment and loads trucks with appropriate material for hauling to the proper recycling or landfill location.

  • Tracks and enters data regarding material distribution and daily activity for billing and reporting purposes.

  • Monitors and coordinates tracking of recycled material by specific type; sends data to accounting.

  • Responsible to complete and maintain all necessary inspection documents to meet all regulatory requirements.

  • Provides quality customer service to all customers, vendors and suppliers; both in person and by phone.

  • Ensures all employees at Como Transfer Station are wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) required and abiding by safety rules and regulations.

  • Responsible for facility housekeeping, maintenance and maintaining a safe working environment.

  • Orders parts and supplies needed for the equipment or facility.

  • Provides daily supervision to the location Transfer Station employees.

  • Keeps supervisor informed of known actions, written or verbal, which may affect the ability to successfully perform assignments or adversely affect company operations.

  • Other projects or duties as assigned by management.

What You'll Need

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and two to three years' related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Good communication skills both oral and written when working with all levels of management and employees, external vendors, clients, and other business associates.

  • Must have experience with Microsoft Windows, spreadsheets, word processing and email applications (preferably Microsoft applications).

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations, and also mean, median and averages.

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

  • Ability to maintain compliance with all Veit policies and procedures.

What Will Set You Apart

  • Solid Waste Landfill Operator preferred.

  • First Aid Certification preferred.

  • HCSS construction software is preferred.

  • OSHA30 Certification is preferred.

  • Valid Driver's License and ability to maintain a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record.

  • Experience operating front-end loader, skid loader and excavator.

  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.

  • Union affiliation or willingness to join the union is required.

Physical Demands

Work Environment
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing essential functions on the job. Employee is exposed to loud noise, dust particles and variable weather conditions (possibly including rain, snow, cold and heat). Employee may also work in tight areas, most often in a typical shop setting. Requires 8-to-10-hour workdays, Monday through Friday, with occasional weekends.

Additional Job Description:

This is a union position with the Operating Engineers 49ers. Pay rate is $32.40 per the contract. Position includes union benefits, pension, vacation, holiday pay, etc.
