JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

We are seeking Undergraduate and Graduate Student Co-ops to support research, development, and engineering activities of the Navigation Research and Development Division (NRDD) part of The Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at The Pennsylvania State University, located in Warminster, PA,

Penn State's Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) is a Department of Defense (DoD) designated University Affiliated Research Center (UARC), which serves as a center of research excellence in a multitude of areas. ARL conducts basic and applied research, exploratory development, and advanced development in support of the U.S. government organizations; contributes to the educational objectives and research goals of Penn State; and promotes the transfer of advanced technology to the U.S. government.

NRDD is a satellite campus of ARL focused on developing the most advanced navigation technologies in the world, built around unique laboratories specially designed to test the most precise navigation sensors and systems. The mission of the NRDD is to conduct new navigation technology research and development, systems engineering and to provide expert knowledge for our Navy, Army, and other U.S. government sponsors.

You will:

  • You will support laboratory operations related to the development, testing, and evaluation of navigation systems
  • You will be working with a cooperative team of scientists and engineers responsible for a mix of hands on work with electrical circuitry, embedded software and/or FPGA firmware development
  • Co-ops in these positions work on several projects such as designing and building hardware to interface with state-of-the-art equipment and instrumentation, programming software to interface with this equipment, software for logging/processing test data, real time programming of mathematical algorithms, analyzing data and conducting live tests of sensors
  • You will learn or strengthen practical skills such as electrical circuit design and troubleshooting, drafting electrical schematics, solid modeling, hardware interfacing, and electrical fabrication

Undergraduate and Graduate students studying Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering are preferred.

Students must be available to work at the Warminster facility for a six month time period.

Multiple vacancies are available.

You will be subject to a government security investigation and you must be a U.S. citizen to apply. Employment with ARL will require successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.
