Description of Work

The University of North Carolina at Charlotte recognizes the differentiation of mission, goals, and objectives inherent in the diversity of disciplines represented by its colleges and departments. Thus, the Job Responsibilities and Essential Functions for Non-Tenure Track Faculty should be interpreted in the context of the related departmental and collegiate teaching goals.

Teaching - Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to teaching may include but are not limited to: subject matter competence, course design, course presentation, and grading student work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Candidates must possess a master's degree in social work from a CSWE-accredited program.
  • Candidates must possess 3 (or more) years of post-MSW clinical experience.
  • Candidates must possess a record of an existing agenda for scholarly activities related to the mission of the SSW (professional presentations, publications, or other products, community-based scholarly involvement, or creative research-based activities).
  • Candidates must possess higher education teaching experience and demonstrate excellence in instruction of social work courses (at BSW, MSW, or doctoral levels) in either face-to-face or online environments.
  • Candidates must demonstrate ability to contribute to the School of Social Work's mission and vision.


Minimum Experience/Education

UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned masters and/or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.

Preferred Education, Skills and Experience


  • LCSW in NC (or full clinical licensure eligibility with comity to another state).
  • Doctoral degree in social work or a related field.
  • Record of past or existing funding for scholarship or community-based research activities.
  • Record of teaching in BOTH face-to-face and online environments.
