Essential Job Duties |
Are you a skilled and experienced maintenance professional looking to make a meaningful impact? NC State University's Building Maintenance and Operations department is seeking a
Facilities Maintenance Technician to help ensure the safety, comfort, and efficiency of our campus spaces.
In this senior-level role, you'll be a key player in maintaining and improving the university's facilities. You'll work within a designated maintenance zone, tackling a wide range of responsibilities-from
HVAC systems and electrical work to plumbing and general building upkeep. Your expertise will support the
repair, installation, and operation of complex mechanical systems, including steam/hot water boilers and auxiliary equipment.

Key responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:
- Install, repair, and maintain plumbing systems and fixtures, including gas, water, and sanitary systems
- Cut, thread, assemble, and install pipe; connect valves, caulk joints, and test completed systems
- Perform journey-level electrical work up to 600 VAC on secondary systems, including conduit wiring, panels, breakers, and switch gear
Repair and replace electrical components such as magnetic starters, disconnects, motors, light fixtures, ballasts, switches, and receptacles Diagnose, troubleshoot, and correct issues in temperature control systems, including regulators, humidity controllers, and sensors- Repair and adjust pneumatic control valves and regulators
- Perform preventive maintenance on refrigeration and air conditioning equipment per manufacturer specifications
- Diagnose and repair boilers, fan turbines, pumps, condensate receivers, and related systems
- Maintain and repair piping systems, insulation, expansion joints, strainers, and pressure-reducing stations
- Service and maintain auxiliary equipment such as air compressors and water softeners
- Analyze faults and malfunctions in electrical systems and control circuits, implementing effective solutions
Develop and implement solutions for standard and occasional non-standard plumbing, electrical, and HVAC issues- Collaborate with team members and other departments to ensure building systems function efficiently and safely

Other Responsibilities |
- Must participate in quarterly on-call program, carrying a pager for one week at a time. This occurs every ten to fourteen weeks. Must be able to work overtime and/or alternate shifts when necessary for emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.
- This position has been designated as essential personnel for the University and may be required to report to work during adverse weather conditions even though the University may be operating on an alternate schedule. This position may assist with snow and ice removal under the direction of a supervisor.

Qualifications
Minimum Experience/Education |
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification(s).
Optional Guidelines: Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. |
Other Required Qualifications |
- Must be able to communicate effectively verbally with supervisors and the general public and understand verbal and written instructions and other communications regarding work assignments and other matters
- Must be able to lift up to 90 pounds occasionally, with or without reasonable accommodations
- Experience working with mechanical systems

Preferred Qualifications |
- Experience in the repair, installation, and operation of complex mechanical systems within a commercial or university environment
- Demonstrate through work, a depth of knowledge and skills for pneumatic controls, as well as DDC type of controls

Required License or Certification |
- Valid North Carolina driver's license is required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained
