The Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) has responsibility for nurturing interdisciplinary research initiatives at one of the nations' leading research institutions. OVPR provides overall research administration and policy for all colleges and schools, as well as the university's more than 100 centers and institutes. Working closely with deans, department heads, faculty, students and staff, the office provides an innovative and supportive research environment that spans all disciplines and campuses and assures that research activities are planned and conducted in accordance with regulations and University policy.

OVPR is seeking a dedicated IRB Analyst to join the team to process and review protocols, and assist the research community in complying with IRB policies and regulations.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Answers inquiries on policy and procedures and redirects queries as needed.
  • Collaborates with other departments as they relate to IRB matters, such as the Office of General Counsel and the Office of Sponsored Programs, to ensure research proposals, awards, protocols, and agreements are written in accordance with regulatory requirements and CMU policy.
  • Receives, triages, reviews, and processes IRB submissions in a timely manner according to applicable regulations and CMU policies and practices.
  • Conducts meetings with researchers to answer questions and provide guidance, when needed.
  • Approves submissions or routes them for additional review by the appropriate CMU staff and committees.
  • Communicates with faculty, staff, and students on preparation and review of IRB submissions.
  • Updates compliance databases (such as SPARCS) to ensure accurate and up-to-date information and compliance with applicable regulations and policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • 3-5 years of relevant work experience.
  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
