Who we are and what we do:

The Department of Safety and Homeland Security's mission is to serve, secure and protect the people of Tennessee. The Tennessee Office of Homeland Security has the primary responsibility and authority for directing statewide activities pertaining to the prevention of, and protection from, terrorist related events. This responsibility includes the development and implementation of a comprehensive and coordinated strategy to secure the state from terrorist threats and attacks. Furthermore, the Office of Homeland Security serves as a liaison between federal, state and local agencies, and the private sector on matters relating to the security of our state and citizens.

Job Overview:

This position serves in the Office of Homeland Security's Threat Assessment Center and is responsible for monitoring, assessing, and reporting threats to life, health, and safety to citizens and infrastructure across the state of Tennessee as part of the Homeland Security Threat Assessment Center, a 24/7/365 operation. This position reports to a Homeland Security Supervisory Special Agent and is required to work variable schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collect information from sources across the state, including incoming calls, emails, the SafeTN application, social media, and other communication channels, in order to identify potential security threats or incidents, assessing the credibility and urgency of reported incidents based on established protocols and guidelines; prioritize reported incidents based on severity, potential impact, and urgency, quickly and accurately determining the appropriate response levels and escalate incidents as needed.
  • Gather detailed and accurate information from sources, including incident location, description, involved parties, and any other pertinent details, utilizing appropriate questioning techniques to ensure all relevant information is captured.
  • Manage and coordinate the response of assets assigned to the Office of Homeland Security during incidents; coordinate with internal teams, external agencies, and relevant stakeholders, provide staff support, both on-site and remote to ensure the efficient management of resources, and timely updates and information to all parties involved in the incident response process.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all reported incidents, actions taken, and resolutions achieved; generate incident reports and contribute to post-incident analysis as necessary.
  • Adhere to established protocols, standard operating procedures, and regulatory requirements governing threat desk operations, ensuring all actions are in compliance with relevant legal and ethical standards. Stay informed about emerging threats, security trends, and best practices for maintaining a safe Tennessee.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; experience in law enforcement, homeland security, intelligence analysis, or other related field may be substituted for the required education. Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret-level security clearance from the federal Department of Homeland Security.
