Description

The City of Irvine seeks an experienced, highly organized, and diplomatic individual to serve as a Program Coordinator with the Senior Services team. Reporting to the Community Services Supervisor, the ideal candidate will be a professional in the aging services field with experience in program planning, coordinating, organizing, and administering older adult programming and customer service operations. The Coordinator must be able to work independently, as part of a team, and without direct support.
The City of Irvine has three community centers for older adult programming and private reservations after 6:00 pm on weekdays and all day on weekends. Our center's primary function is to provide social, recreational, and wellness programs for individuals 50 and over, including health, fitness, and wellness services.

This recruitment will establish an Eligibility List for the Community Services Program Coordinator position, which will expire on 5/12/26.

Your Impact

  • Develops, schedules, plans, organizes, coordinates, and implements support programs for adults aged 50 and older.
  • Provides training, supervision, and consultation for Resource Linkage service staff.
  • Serves as lead staff for short-term follow-ups, providing assessments and interventions for vulnerable, homebound seniors.
  • Oversees and evaluates the work of program staff and volunteers, including scheduling, training, supervision, and performance reviews. Offers guidance and support within the assigned program area.
  • Develops, manages, and monitors program budgets; handles the purchase and requisition of supplies and equipment; collects program fees and donations; and maintains related financial records.
  • Researches, prepares, and evaluates narrative and statistical reports, spreadsheets, correspondence, rosters, and schedules.
  • Collaborates with other departments and local nonprofit organizations to coordinate program offerings and support special events.
  • Investigates, analyzes, and prepares recommendations for new programs, services, and grant opportunities.
  • Responds to specific inquiries, complaints, and requests related to program activities and prepares detailed reports.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in recreation, gerontology, human services, recreation, public administration, or a field related to the assigned area.
  • Two years' experience in recreation/social services programing or community facility operation, or a combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Possess, or ability to obtain a valid California driver's license.
  • Required to obtain First Aid/CPR certification within three months of employment.

Best Fit
  • A Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Gerontology, or a related field is highly desirable.
  • Five years of experience in social services for older adults preferred.
  • Maintain strong customer service, organizational, leadership, and marketing skills to prioritize resources and provide exceptional service to the community.
  • Excellent Communication skills, detail-oriented, and a team player.
  • Ability to handle difficult situations, effectively, solve problems, and identify solutions.
