ABOUT THE JOB The Engineer is responsible for all engineering-related tasks and leading engineering team members under the direction of the Plant Engineer or Plant Manager. WHAT YOUR DAY WILL LOOK LIKE
- Daily support of all plant related continuous improvement initiatives including training, mentoring, and coaching for plant Kata teams.
- Weekly update on plant Kata team progression with KPI' s to plant steering group.
- Collaboration with continuous improvement teams from other plants on company initiatives.
- Maintaining, reviewing, and updating plant A3's on a monthly and yearly basis.
- Other CI responsibilities as needed including 5S, Work Standards, TWI JI and TWI JR, etc.
- Assists Plant Engineer/Project Manager with the execution of capital and expense projects, including: project definition, planning, approval, tracking and reporting.
- Generates engineering deliverables (drawings, calculations, specifications, bid packages, installation scope, etc.) required for execution of projects.
- Procures equipment, labor and materials.
- Supports installation, commissioning and training activities as necessary.
- Serves as a technical resource for the plant, for both internal and external needs.
- Assists operations in process analysis and equipment troubleshooting to identify improvement opportunities.
- Training and mentoring of other employees, including engineers, maintenance, interns, and production personnel as it impacts the process and equipment.
- Staying abreast of changes in the industry and new technical developments through continuing education, research and personal development.
- Maintaining plant drawings, including P&IDs, layouts, and electrical drawings.
- May be required to drive a company vehicle.
- Provides excellent customer service to all internal and external customers.
- Other work-related duties as assigned by leader.
- Regular and reliable attendance is required.
- Follows all company policies and procedures.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field is required.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Computer skills, including Microsoft Office and AutoCAD are required.
- Communication, interpersonal, organizational, and collaboration skills required.
- Manages multiple tasks and projects and meets deadlines.
- Ability to translate technical ideas into non-technical terms.
- Experience using continuous improvement tools and principles to make process improvements is preferred.
- Experience with engineering disciplines and principles is preferred. This may include: process/mechanical (i.e. machine/equipment design, fluid flow, solids handling, heat transfer, strength of materials, mass/energy balance), electrical/controls (i.e. electric power distribution, power and control wiring, process control strategy, instrumentation, automation, pneumatics, and hydraulics), facilities --(i.e. site planning, HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, building design, steam, utilities, construction management and engineering economy).
- Ability to stand for long periods of time in hot or cold temperatures.
- Ability to travel by various means up to 30% of the time is required.
- Can work at elevated heights up to 50 ft.
- Ability to read, write and speak in English is required.
- Communicating in Spanish is a valuable skill at Helena.
- Valid U.S. driver's license is required to drive a company vehicle.
- Applicants for positions requiring operation of a moving vehicle or interaction with heavy equipment must meet the legal age requirement.
Successful completion of a drug test and background check is required for all positions at Helena. WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL ASPECTS OF THE JOB At Helena, safety is our highest priority. The work environment for this position is in a typical plant/warehouse environment where the noise level is usually moderate to loud. In this position, you will regularly work near moving equipment/mechanical parts and could be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, chemical and biological hazards, vibrations and a risk of electrical shock. This position requires you to use your hands for many different tasks and to talk, hear, walk, sit, stand, (8 hours a day or more), lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling (up to and including 50lbs or more), reaching overhead (up to and including 25lbs), climbing, gripping, grasping and twisting using hands and wrists, bending and stooping for long periods of time, working below knee levels for short periods of time and working above shoulder level for short periods.
