DEPARTMENT: Community Relations and Development TITLE: Territorial Volunteer Engagement Director STATUS: Full-Time, Exempt SALARY: $115,000 - $120,000 Please be sure to add a cover letter. SCOPE OF POSITION: The Territorial Volunteer Engagement Director will develop and implement an integrated volunteer engagement strategy for The Salvation Army's USA Western Territory. This role will collaborate across departments to refine systems, policies, training, and resources that professionalize the volunteer engagement staff and enhance the volunteer experience. The Director will be responsible for staying ahead of engagement trends, leading the transition to new volunteer management software, and strengthening volunteer engagement as a key part of community relations and development. This position will also provide support and resources to the field related to Advisory Organization engagement. This position is based onsite in Rancho Palos Verdes, with eligibility for a hybrid (2 days remote) schedule after an initial onboarding period. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelors in Nonprofit Management, Organizational Management, Health and Human Services, or similar field required. Masters preferred.
- Minimum ten years of experience in volunteer engagement or five years of experience in volunteer engagement within The Salvation Army.
- Experience in classroom-style training and speaking before large groups
- Experience hiring, evaluating, and coaching others
- Experience successfully navigating a complex matrixed organization to move work forward
- Certification in E-Learning Development, E-Learning Design, Training Course Instruction, or similar credential preferred
- Experience leading national certified courses in-person, such as ServSafe
QUALIFICATIONS (COMPETENCE & SKILLS):
- Strong leadership/management skills and experience
- Knowledge of the information and communication system solutions and resources available to enhance all phases of volunteer engagement
- A deep understanding of how volunteer engagement leads to increased donor support and long-term organizational sustainability
- Knowledge of grant compliance and stewardship
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of data management, integration, validation, and reporting
- Knowledge of online learning through multimedia techniques, including graphics, text, sound, and video
- Ability to analyze problems and resources and initiate procedures and processed designed for improved productivity
- Ability to provide guidance and expert advice to management, departmental, and divisional volunteer engagement staff on technical systems or process-related topics
- Ability to provide excellent organizational practices
- Ability to interact with co-workers, management, leadership, and public in positive, productive manner
- Ability to communicate effectively and build working relationships with various internal stakeholders and outside organizations
- Ability to work independently and in team environment
- Ability to plan and manage workload on compliance with workload demands and times constraints

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develops a comprehensive strategy to increase volunteer engagement across the Western Territory that includes stewardship of volunteers who are donors, and identifying and cultivating donor prospects among the broader volunteer base
- Provides support, training and resources to divisional volunteer management staff as well as to field officers and program leads who engage regularly with volunteers
- Oversees the recruitment, onboarding and training of volunteers to assist with the provision of programs and services across The Salvation Army's Western Territory
- Works with other departments to ensure policies and procedures with volunteer engagement dependencies are in alignment with best practices in volunteerism, including screening, placement, orientation, support, recognition, and evaluation
- Consults with other Salvation Army departments (i.e. Legal, Human Resources, Risk Management, Development, Information Technology) to ensure new and existing volunteer practices and activities integrate with organizational requirements
- Develops and executes a system to evaluate volunteers and provide feedback to ensure that their experience is positive
- Responsible for strategically planning for engagement of donors in volunteerism
- Assists in the development of an online training program as well as the production of educational materials for online trainings, presentations, videos, webinars, job aides, and infographics
- Assists with the collection and aggregation of volunteer data to be disseminated to donors and other partners
- Coordinates communication and sharing of volunteer documents, policy changes or updates for volunteer engagement staff across the territory
- Work with divisions to promote interactive online trainings for volunteers and volunteer management as they are developed
- Coordinates monthly online meetings with Divisional volunteer managers and staff as needed
- Represents volunteer engagement, as required, for meetings, negotiations, and events
- Serve as an active member of the CRD Team, working collaboratively toward common goals and attending team and project meetings as needed.
- Represents the organization by maintaining significant partnerships between The Salvation Army and partner entities, including corporate, educational, and faith-based supporters
- Generates ideas for a volunteer recognition system to acknowledge volunteers for their service
- Coordinates with Public Relations to support any special events for volunteers and develop information for the website regarding volunteer recruitment and activities
- Works with the Territorial Corporate Engagement Director to create meaningful opportunities for corporate volunteer groups and resources for corporate directors in the field.
- Tracks giving among volunteer base and sets goals for increasing giving over baseline. Provides reports to leadership on a quarterly basis.
- Supports the field with Echelon and Advisory Organization resources and support.
- Works closely with the Territorial Director of Emergency Disaster Services and the Territorial Director of Development to ensure EDS volunteer-related needs are addressed
- Assist in the database setup and planning for volunteer and emergency system tools and applications, including but not limited to the territorial Learning Management System and territorial Volunteer Management Database
- Assist with the digital transformation of existing volunteer engagement and management curriculum, including the development of new trainings, and webinars
- Serve as the main Territorial point of contact for the field related to national or territory-wide Christmas and holiday volunteer engagement tools, campaigns, partnerships and events
- Upon request, coordinate volunteer activities for individual and group THQ employees at TSA locations off campus
- Visit and support volunteer Events
- Other Duties as assigned
