The Position

Are you ready to take on a pivotal leadership role at one of Roche's most complex and dynamic sites? As a key member of our leadership team, you will bring your expertise and strategic vision to shape our physical safety, emergency response, and business resumption programs. Reporting directly to the Senior Director of Facilities & Engineering (F&E), you will be the trusted advisor who ensures our operations are safe, efficient, and resilient.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Expertise: Serve as a key advisor to the Director of F&E, providing subject-matter expertise and strategic direction for safety and emergency programs.

  • Program Oversight: Lead and enhance F&E safety programs across South San Francisco and Dixon sites, including for contractors and third-party service providers.

  • Emergency Coordination: Act as the lead coordinator for emergency response and business resumption, ensuring readiness and effective response.

  • Strategic Development: Develop safety group strategies aligned with Security, Safety, Health & Environment (SSHE) goals, and provide guidance to prioritize business objectives.

  • Risk Management: Organize and lead risk engineering audits in collaboration with the Senior Risk Engineering Manager and local teams. Head the wildfire incident command team to respond to climate risks.

  • Safety Leadership: Establish safety committees, review incident reports, implement prevention initiatives, and monitor SSHE compliance.

  • Preparedness & Training: Ensure that the site is prepared for emergencies with comprehensive plans, procedures, and regular training exercises.

  • Contractor Management: Oversee third-party service providers, managing agreements and ensuring their safety programs are robust and compliant.

  • Best Practices: Implement industry best practices to manage risks while minimizing impact on stakeholders. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company standards.

  • Continuous Improvement: Develop and execute strategic plans for key safety programs, ensuring continuous improvement and adherence to regulations. Track compliance findings and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

  • Collaborative Efforts: Work with cross-functional teams to effectively implement safety programs and share best practices within Roche and similar businesses.

  • Technical Support: Provide technical support for various safety programs, including PPE, Contractor Safety, LOTO, Electrical Safety, Fall Protection, and other related areas.

Requirements:

  • Education: BS or MS in a relevant scientific or engineering field, or substantial equivalent experience.

  • Experience: Minimum of 12 years in safety, health, and environment (EHS) or SSHE program management. Operations experience preferred.

  • Certifications: Strongly preferred certifications include Certified Safety Professional, Construction Health & Safety Technician, and/or Professional Engineer.

  • Training: National Incident Command System training from FEMA is strongly preferred..

  • Skills: Proficient in program management, with experience in LEAN business process improvement methodology. Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Attributes: Self-starter, team player, dependable, with a proven track record of practical solutions, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $138,500.00 - $257,100.00 USD Annual. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
