Position Overview:

The Public Relations Intern will support the Public Affairs and Communications team in advancing Astound's strategic objectives across municipal government affairs and media relations. This role involves the development of communication materials, policy research, and media engagement strategies aimed at enhancing Astound's presence and reputation in key local markets. The position requires collaboration with internal stakeholders and external partners, including government officials, community organizations, and local media outlets.

  • This opportunity offers the flexibility to work on a hybrid schedule based out of Astound's Princeton, NJ office.



A Day in the Life of the Public Relations Intern:



  • Assist in developing concise, compelling messaging tailored to municipal government officials and local stakeholders, including elevator pitches and stump speeches.
  • Draft and edit executive communications, including speeches, talking points, and op-eds for use at city council meetings, public hearings, and community events.
  • Conduct research on broadband policy, infrastructure investments, and municipal engagement case studies to support the creation of communication strategies and messaging frameworks.
  • Assist in coordinating editorial board meetings and press briefings with key media outlets.
  • Monitor and analyze local media coverage to assess sentiment, identify trends, and recommend proactive public relations opportunities.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of media strategies aimed at increasing visibility of Astound's broadband expansion efforts and community initiatives.
  • Identify, track, and engage with local journalists, bloggers, and digital influencers to pitch relevant stories and build media relationships.
  • Support the creation of media materials, including press releases, media lists, and briefing documents.
  • Other duties as assigned.



What You Bring to the Table:



  • Experience writing speeches, press releases, op-eds, or blog posts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to write for different audiences and formats.
  • Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize information into actionable insights.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple assignments with varying deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); familiarity with media monitoring platforms is preferred.



Education:



  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations, Communications, Political Science, Public Affairs, Journalism, or a related field.



Compensation:

The base compensation for this position is $20.00 per hour. The base pay represents the low and high end of the hiring range for this job.
