Senior Laboratory Science Professional

Job Summary:

The Department of Ophthalmology seeks Senior Laboratory Science Professionals to assist with investigator-initiated projects in the areas of retinal biology and stem cell technologies. The successful candidate will join the ExoSight-The Human Stem Cells Exosomes lab, within the context of the CellSight Program, a cross-disciplinary team of investigators working in a highly collaborative environment with the common goal of developing novel stem cell-based therapeutics to treat ocular diseases as well as new methodologies to diagnose ocular disorders. The primary responsibilities for this position include culturing stem cells and retinal organoids, as well as their molecular and functional characterization. Additionally, research on retinal development and degeneration and the isolation and characterization of extracellular vesicles are key tasks. The position also involves assisting the Principal Investigator (PI) in training and mentoring students, as well as collaborating on the writing of scientific papers and grants. Key Responsibilities / Duties:

• Utilize a variety of laboratory techniques required for research projects
• Perform experiments and analyze research data
• Perform pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical test processes and evaluate results
• Support analytical testing processes, including sample collection, preservation, preparation, and documentation
• Leading scientific projects, including project design, performing experiments and analyzing and interpreting results
• Developing expertise in stem cell and retinal organoid culture and characterization
• Developing and validating new methodologies/applications
• Developing expertise in exosomes
• Aiding the PI in the supervision of students and trainees in laboratory research
• Assisting the PI with writing scientific publications and grants
• Participating in lab meetings, department seminars and journal clubs, and presenting research results at scientific conferences when appropriate.

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field
  
  
  
  • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis
  
  
  
  
• Two (2) years professional-level research experience

• Master's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field
• Three (3) years of experience in an experimental or wet laboratory

• Advanced knowledge of laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques
• Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution
• Outstanding customer service skills
• Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology medical terminology
• Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range for this position has been established as:

$54,440 - $69,248

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
