What We Need:

HNI Corporation is currently hiring an Accounting Specialist to support our finance team with responsibilities focused on accounts payable and accounts receivable. This role plays a key part in ensuring accurate and timely processing of financial transactions, maintaining detailed records, and supporting internal reporting and reconciliation efforts.

This is a full-time, direct-hire, hourly (non-exempt) exempt position that will work onsite from our offices in Muscatine, IA four days per week (M-Th). Qualified candidates may have any combination of education and experience. Our ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of accounting principles (GAAP) and demonstrated experience supporting Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), or general accounting in a medium or large environment.

What You Will Do:

Accounts Payable

  • Review and process incoming invoices and payment requests in the ERP system.
  • Match invoices with purchase orders and receipts to ensure proper authorization and coding.
  • Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Prepare and process check runs, ACH payments, and wire transfers.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date vendor records and assist with onboarding new vendors.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and company policies for AP processes.
  • Respond to vendor inquiries and communicate payment status.
  • Assist with month-end closing activities, including AP accruals and reporting.
  • Support audits by providing required documentation and transaction history.

Accounts Receivable

  • Generate and distribute accurate customer invoices and billing statements.
  • Apply customer payments to the correct accounts and reconcile discrepancies.
  • Monitor accounts for overdue payments and proactively follow up on past-due invoices.
  • Communicate with customers regarding payment status and resolve disputes professionally.
  • Work closely with sales and customer service teams to ensure proper billing and collections.
  • Maintain accurate records of AR transactions and update customer accounts as needed.
  • Assist with month-end close activities, including AR aging reports and cash receipt reconciliation.
  • Support audits by providing documentation and transaction records as requested.
  • Recommend accounts for collections when internal efforts are exhausted.

Customer Service

  • Administer corporate credit card processes which include both travel and credit cards to internal members and card issuers: customer service, processing applications, reporting, etc.
  • Access digital financial information to answer general questions, and those related to specific accounts

What You Have:

  • Minimum 2 years' experience in Accounting or similar field
  • Experienced and proficient using Microsoft Office, with an emphasis on Outlook and Excel
  • Prior experience with Oracle financials preferred
  • Proven ability to work on various tasks at one time in a fast-paced team environment
