POSITION SUMMARY: In a High Reliability Organization, Infection Preventionist is responsible for monitoring and implementing Infection Surveillance, Prevention, and Control. Responsible for facilitation of the local infection prevention and control program under the direction of the Infection Prevention or Quality Leader. Serves as a resource on, infection risk assessment, surveillance, prevention, and control strategies. Acts as a resource to the members of the management team in reference to guidelines for infection prevention and control. Utilizes epidemiology principles to monitor the delivery of patient care and investigate potential outbreaks of infection. Assists with the facilitation of action plans to mitigate the risk of infection spread through collaboration with leadership. Maintains knowledge of external regulatory standards related to infection surveillance, prevention, and control and contributes to the hospital's policies and practices, as related to infection prevention and control per CDC and State guidelines.



Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Microbiology, Clinical Laboratory Sciences, Epidemiology, Public Health, or other health-related field required.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: CBIC CIC (Certification in Infection Control) within 3 years of hire

SKILLS:



  • Knowledge of all aspects of a healthcare facility, including microbiology, surgical, medical, maternal child, pediatric, geriatric and physical plant
  • Excellent time management and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English fluently required
  • Knowledge of and ability to use Microsoft Excel and Word.


EXPERIENCE: Five years clinical experience required and epidemiology training preferred.

NATURE OF SUPERVISION:

Provides direct supervision to:

-Responsible to: Director, Quality Management

ENVIRONMENT:

- Bloodborne pathogen: Occasionally works irregular hours. Exposure to infectious diseases and subject to varying unpredictably situations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to handle emergency/crisis situations, prolonged standing/walking. Has knowledge of and uses good body mechanics. Occasionally lifts, positions, pushes and/or assists normal adult-weight transfer patients or equipment. Hearing and visual acuity within normal limits. Manual dexterity and fine motor coordination required.
